Herbstreit

I was going to post about this. You can just hear his spirit deflate with each big play by Clemson. That 3rd-and-19 conversion by Clemson sounded like it really broke him.

Makes you wonder if Clemson is really that much better? Did OSU just have their worst game of the year? A bit of both it would seem. Clemson has those good/great players and a coaching staff that gets the most out of them. And for the most part, OSU is right there. Well done, Tigers.

Before we crown Clemson the best that has ever been for blowing out Ohio State. Let's remember they lost at home to Pittsburgh, should have lost to NC State at home on Homecoming and squeaked a victory out over mighty Troy.
I don't see anybody doing that here... at the same time, no one could have predicted what we did see in that game. It was total domination from start to finish. But no, no one is saying Clemson is the greatest ever.

Can't believe Herby didn't say it and you guys didn't either...

Obviously OSU didn't want to be in this game. They wanted to be in the championship.

Their players had zero interest in playing Clemson. They wanted Bama and it showed.

They practiced all month for Bama and yesterday realized they had to play Clemson first and that Clemson wasn't a pushover.

Some of the players on the team thought they should have been in the Rose Bowl instead of PSU and refused to play well last night.

The 6th and 7th year seniors still wanted to be playing for Jim Tressel and this was their big FU to Meyer.

The fans want Tressel back, or someone that is following in Tressel's footsteps by coaching at YSU before stepping up to take OSU to the promiseland. Yep, you guessed it. They are expecting Pelini to take over after kicking arse at YSU.

Half of the fans know Meyer cannot simply recruit his 500 mile radius and needs the players from the south. Meyer will be on the hotseat until he realizes this and gets those players.

The other half knows that there is enough talent in-state to win championships and now that Tressel's players are gone, Meyer cannot win with his own players. He is a perfect example of coming in and winning with another coach's at Utah, Florida, and now OSU.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm watching the same game as some of our posters. While I didn't really hear that personally, it would be perfectly normal if it did happen. For cryin out loud, it's his alma matter, that must kinda suck to have to announce a game like that for your alma matter. I'll give him a small pass on that over a normal game he usually broadcasts that doesn't include his team. I think Herbie is one of the best out there personally.

If he wouldn't have thrown such a fit over 1995 and 1971 Nebraska thing, the majority of the fans that hate Herby probably would only dislike him instead.

He is talented and one of the best at what he does, but...

In case you forgot, watch this video. Seriously. It is enough to re-piss off any long-time Husker fan :)

I, myself, forgot how pathetic Herbstreit came across and how outnumbered he was in the show by the other guys sitting there.

Herbstreit stated in an interview this year that that video clip is a bit misleading. He points out that his producers were leaning on him to help generate some emotion and controversy because the show was getting dull and losing viewers. So he decided to be the contrarian with regard to Nebraska because he thought the dullness was being generated by the Nebraska love fest that was going on. He admitted he was a bit over the top and said he does not dislike Nebraska at all. Now... maybe he is full of shit and just making excuses. But that is what he said

I totally believe that could be true. Seems to me he's been pretty damn respectful of our program every time I hear him talk about us. That clip not withstanding.

I don't mind Herbstreit but I would have preferred for the crews to be flipped yesterday. Herbstreit's better when he's not covering Ohio State and Joe Tessitore is unbearable when he's doing an SEC game - although, I thought Blackledge was very good and provided some balance on that game.

Personally, I think Todd Blackledge is one of the most underrated and overlooked color commentators in college football today. He is balanced and insightful, and is even fair when covering Penn State

agree, i watch two or three games at once and dont really feel i miss anything on the ones without sound. I do have a special kind of hate for Ed C. though.

Oh so what. Everyone probably has a professional moment or two they'd like to forget like that.

I agree.

Sounds like what Husker fans (and many others) have been saying for years about ESPN.

They are not simply a sports news network that shows us what happened in sports, but are just like every other network out there trying to make money by getting people to watch them. To do this they must have their people state "opinions" whether they are that person's true opinions or not.

I believe Trev Alberts left ESPN because of this very reason.

I will not fault ESPN for this (although ESPN pisses me off from time to time... their SEC lovefest is the worst) and I will give Herby a break on this video, but I believe that this segment of the show was the cause of many Husker fans coming to dislike him so much.

100% agree. Herbstreit has talent and knows what he is talking about when it comes to college football.

Ohio State has been an iffy team all season long. The Buckeye fans thought weather was the issue because they played like crap in poor conditions but I'd say they were prone to off days. They will either show up and beat the hell out of someone or show up and struggle. It's been that way most of the season.
