Alright RSS so here is the deal. I ventured off and started my own business and we are nearing the end of week two. I offer interior painting on the side as a way to stay busy. Hoping to do some during the winter especially.
Well had two interior paint jobs come my way today and I'm trying to figure out the bidding process. One job is a garage. 24x24 garage with 10 ft ceilings. The other I'm not entirely sure what it will consist of until I take a look tomorrow. Though I believe he is going to ask me to paint the whole upstairs of a rental.
Today I have spent all day trying to figure out how to bid these jobs. From researching prices on the internet and asking some contractor friends I have I was going to shoot for $1.65-$1.75 sq ft for labor. So basically a 12x12 room I would get painted for $238 (@$1.65 sq ft) + the price of paint. Am I way out of wack here. I don't really think so.
As for the garage, it is throwing me for a loop and I dont know why. 24x24 and have to paint two walls and a ceiling but my price seems way high. 24x24=576 sq ft. Divide that by 2 for a total of 288 sq ft for walls. Now the ceiling. 24x24=576 sq ft. 576 + 288= 864 sq ft total. 864 x 1.65=$1425!!! + paint. Seems way to high. Where am I going wrong here?
As far as the house I thought my pricing seemed pretty close. Basically when I go over to do the bid I was just going to draw a little blueprint of the layout and measure each room. Take the sq ft of each room to paint times $1.65 to get labor cost. Then add the price of paint.
Anyways any help would be much appreciated and TIA. GBR
