Has anyone here ever been to The Masters?

I have been to practice rounds and opening round

if you want to take pics, practice round is your only option. I've been on Tues & Weds.

grab a chair and set it down around a green you're planning your day around (#16 is my rec). leave it there all day, nobody will mess with it or your stuff. 16 is where the players will skip their balls across the pond so fun chance to see these guys do otherworldly stuff + great backdrop for pics

par 3 contest is included with Weds practice round tix - go to that

walking the course backward will give you great perspective. eat/drink/be merry with patrons - you will not find another place where 75,000 people are having the best day of their lives (literally). sit in the grandstand behind #12 tee to see all of Amen Corner.

you can also find some practice round pairings day of or day before. keep an eye out if there's a player you really want to follow. access is awesome during practice rounds.

obv get there early (gates open at 6a, I think). no phones allowed. parking is free. wear your most comfortable shoes. course is much much much hillier than it looks on TV. #10 fairway is essentially a green ski run.

That is exactly what I was looking for. I can only go Tuesday so hopefully it doesnt rain too much. I am spending time in Savannah and Charleston as well. I am paying for practice round tickets through stubhub so it certainly wont be cheap but Ive always wanted to go and the dates work out for me. Same reason I went to Duke -Carolina this year. We arent getting any younger

hit the store immediately upon getting through the gates and ONLY buy a folding chair

then head straight to 16 green and set it down along with anything else you don't want to carry around all day (just put it underneath)

bring a pen - you can put your name on your chair

I promise it will remain unmolested the entire time you're out and about on the course

go back to the store at your leisure anytime after that, but staking your claim to a spot on that green is your #1 priority

Tues is a great day to see the course & there will absolutely be players playing the entire time you're out there

practice green complex is right behind #1 tee and will be buzzing - you can get right up beside it and watch players/caddies practice

range is adjacent to the course and also not far. there are grandstands set up if you want to watch guys hit balls, but I recommend spending all your time on the course. it cannot be overhyped.

what do you think you would shoot there?

I am usually about 15 over when I play, I figure at the Masters, I would be lucky to shoot a 135 IF I caught some breaks but probably over 140 or so. Thoughts?

When you went to Duke-Carolina I bet it was at Chapel Hill. My in-law's live in the area. I've been to both Carolina and NC State home games. Paid too much to see the Carolina games when my in-law's neighbors' tickets are not available. My brother-in-law gets luxury box seats for NC State through his work. Duke at Cameron is just too expensive for me

Kong is spot on with both of his detailed responses. It is amazing that no one messes with your stuff. One thing about pictures is Augusta does not allow you to take in your cell phone. They make sure when going through the gate, so you have to check in your cell phone when you get there.

Have been there on a Tuesday practice round. Hole #16 is a solid pick, but you may want to check out hole #10. You can get really close to the green, which means really close to the players. Set up your folding chair where you want to stay for most of the day and then walk the course, backward, as has been suggested.

Try NOT to get a woody when you get there. It is that amazing!!!

It was at Cameron. I was really blown away by their campus... Football "stadium" not so much

I am looking at going to a practice round so I can take some pictures. If anyone has gone and has any tips I am all ears.
I’ve been to two practice rounds. I don’t really have any tips as I don’t think you can go wrong. It’s such an amazing experience. We walked the entire course a few times just following different pros. Still one of my favorite sporting events I’ve been to.

yes, agreed

it is insane how undulating the course is and I cannot imagine the amount of 3+ putts I'd make on those greens

Did you go to Chapel Hill? I think UNC has a nicer campus than Duke and their football field is nicer too. Chapel Hill’s Franklin Street where all the bars and restaurants are is pretty fun too. Sometimes my brother in law and I will go to Franklin Street and watch a game in one of the bars. Chapel Hill itself is much nicer than Durham. Durham is where all the cigarette factories use to be.

It is an awesome experience. You can just feel all the history of the place as you walk the grounds. The pimento cheese sandwich is a Masters classic and a must try. I've been there 9 years (lived in Augusta for 3 of those) and we always had a standing group bet. Anyone that found a weed would get $50 from each of the rest of the group. It has not been collected. One year my mom, who could care less about golf, came to a practice round with us and she was blown away by the beauty of the place and had a great time. Enjoy it!!

Oh yea, try to make the ceremonial 1st tee on Thursday morning, A great Masters tradition. It was Nicklaus, Player and Watson last year and I assume it will be the same this year. The 1st one I attended the honorary starters were Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead and Byron Nelson.

I did. Went to the basketball hall of fame next to the Dean Dome, walked into the football stadium which was really nice. I liked Carolinas campus with the trees all over. Guessing it's really nice in the late spring and fall. Walked NCSTs campus too and well.... It was a campus... That's about it. If I would have had more time I would have hit up the Durham Bulls park but when we drove by it looked like there was major construction. The buildings on Dukes campus were what I was impressed with.
