Lots of obvious reasons.
I will say the one of the biggest advantages is that it is a free flow game where the players make the decisions as the coach can provide minimal help during the game. So the players must be the thinkers.
Pretty sure most, if not all, sports require a similar amount of mental preparation. Tennis and golf seem to me a few examples of sports where if you don't have the proper mental focus you can be the most talented out there but not win a thing.I don't know about that. Because of the free flow the game might require an overall understanding of the game, but to me it ends up being more instinctive and more individual. There is no sport that requires more mental preparation than football.
