People fall all over themselves with the rankings, but the real issue is whether we were successful in getting kids that will make us better than we are now in a couple of years. At the top of our class have a well regarded QB and 2 or perhaps 3 high quality Olineman. The Dismuke kid is highly rated and having Calabasas kids know NU is a possible place to play doesn't hurt. And of course any of the other kids could turn out to be great players.
Looking at the depth chart for the bowl game against UCLA, I counted 7 frosh and RS Frosh and 6 sophomores on the two-deep, in addition to Devine who obviously had a great game.
There isn't any reason at all to not be optimistic. This is a solid class, we have some youth with experience and the kids now in the program have a full year with the new coaches. Two of the 2016 recruits are already enrolled. Spring ball is just a few weeks away!!

We still I think have at least one more road grader making a visit. It would be icing on the cake to finish with another wide body in this class to go with some of the speed guys we're still waiting on. Riley has done a good job IMO of addressing immediate needs thus far.

Jackson probably projects better at DT than OT but now that Farniok is on board I'm not sure he's still on the table. IMO Riley and his staff have a plan for DT and were very picky about who they would take at DT.

Don't get me wrong, I think we will be solid at DT next year, but I am struggling to see what 2017 holds... Davis Twins, Stoltenburg and Newell. 4 DT's? Am I missing someone?

Those four as of 2017 will have 2 (Stolt/Newell) and 3 (Davis squared) years to play. Maybe one of the younger DEs puts on some weight and slides inside. Maybe try and snag a JUCO next year for some depth. But next year will need to be a DT class.

5.7 3*, apparently was a Rivals 4* at some point, offer list includes Nebraska Arizona St. California Florida Penn St. Florida St. Iowa Iowa St. Michigan Michigan St. Minnesota (this is not the full list).
Participated in the Army All-American Bowl. A dude from 247Sports described him as being "one of the toughest players in the country at the point of attack." (per LJS).

I think you are missing my point (or I didn't make my point clear enough)...I'm not commenting on the kid's talent...even if he was a 5* and had offers from literally every single program in the country it still sounds funny to use "#1 OL from SD" like in general (not in specific year or this year) landing the #1 OL in SD is considered huge...in most years the #1 OL in SD probably is a marginal D1 prospect at best...but again to be clear...not saying anything about this specific kid...just how the statement sounds

Dude... What? The state of Iowa usually produces pretty marginal recruits as well, but that doesn't stop Iowa from recruiting and offering them scholarships. You know just as well as us that players from small states like Iowa and South Dakota continually get overlooked, year after year. And I know you know what I'm talking about because you just won 12 games with a roster full of kids like that, but I digress. I also assumed that you were an Iowa fan.

Do you forget a guy by name of Riley Rieff... Pretty solid player from SD that the last staff couldn't close on..He was wanted about as bad as Matt Farniok..

I back Riley 100% and am excited about the potential of the class but the fact remains that based on ranking alone this class will likely be ranked in the same neighborhood as an average Pelini class 20-25. Maybe slightly better. Where it needs to distinguish itself from the Pelini classes is development and production in a couple of years

RR, there will always be exceptions, no question.

But saying we got the best player out of South Dakota isn't as impressive as saying we got the best player out of Texas or Florida... At least not year in year out.

I think ellobo was simply saying change your bragging to say, "we got one of the best O linemen in the entire Midwest... Look at his offer sheet!" That generally carries more weight then the best out of South Dakota.

If people outside of the Midwest who don't follow recruiting hear that we got the best out of South Dakota, big deal. But if they hear we got one of the best in the Midwest, that means a lot more.
