Grant Seagren and others to the portal as well

Walk on Tackle, played in 7 games last season. From Oakland-Craig, came in as 230lb TE leaving as 310 lb OT.

Rhule spoke out about him earlier in the spring, said the only thing holding him back from being a starter is him and his mindset.

Gave Chief Borders a big talk up right before he hit the portal as well. It’s a recommendation in advance.

I am from the kids home town. Grant graduated at 255-60’ not 230.and a Rhule never said anything about being a starter. He said the only thing holding Grant back from reaching his potential is Grant himself.

If you want to question my info, talk to Rhule, these are his quotes

"As soon as Grant decides that he's a scholarship player he's going to be something else. He was 230-pound tight end wherever he was. He' s now 315. He's in the Raikes school, which means he's an elite student." He has to sometimes leave meetings for some of those class responsibilities," Rhule said.

"He has all the talent to be a starter. He just has to in his mind say, 'I'm the starting left tackle.' Not, 'Ah, I walked on' or whatever. Forget all the walkon stuff. That's in your own head. He's a big-time player in my mind."

Do we still have to get to 105? Or is that number on hold with the latest news about roster size?
I would guess there will be some sort of grandfathered number just based on that judge's comments from last week. Then the story where a few of the ADs stated that the 105 number isn't going to derail this, insinuating that they will negotiate a number to keep the judge from throwing the settlement out completely.

I also believe that if the judge approves the settlement with a number at 125, for example, some of these guys could just come back to Nebraska. My opinion is that they are putting themselves in the portal to hopefully find a landing spot just in case the judge sets the number at say 115. I also believe these player, outside of Seagren, probably weren't in the 105.

Sounds confusing. Good thing Bo isn't coaching anymore. 😂

This may have been discussed somewhere I have not seen it. But how is the TE room shaking out? Lost the 2 top ends last year now Flynt transferring. I would think they would be pretty slim in that room

I would imagine that any of the kids intending to return if possible have been told what their status is wrt a 110, 115 or 120 sized roster.

I thought the portal was supposed to have closed on Friday? Did these people beat the deadline?
Yes. They informed the school and the school had 2 days to file the papers: it can be announced at anytime .sometimes the players announce and sometimes the school.

Talented guy. Very sorry to see him leave.

Many players had discussions with the coaches on Monday.
If you follow the 105 saga its pretty crazy. Good for this judge. The most infuriating part is that the people and lawyers who are supposed to vouch for the players aren't vouching for them at all. Many players wrote letters to the judge.
I'm guessing Tuco is correct when he says many of these guys are entering to test the waters and be in "just in case" the 105 number sticks and can come back. I'm guessing the coaches even recommended it with some of them.

It is so simple to just grandfather them in and say "105 in four years" and let the teams do cuts naturally over four years and not take any more walk ons This isn't difficult.

It seems weird timing to me that those conversations with coaches took place on Monday and the portal supposedly closed on the Friday before.

I remember Flynt and family were so dailed in to the Huskers, really committed to the idea. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

Well since he's no longer here I hope it doesn't come off as sour grapes. But I never seen what they liked in him to begin with. Was a meh offer/commit from day one for me

I figured he was going to eventually be moved to OT or G when they signed him. He only had like 10-15 catches in his HS career used mostly as a blocker.

Exactly. We need to take high school TEs and build them in to linemen. The number of high school OTs who are athletically able to excel in a P5 conference is very small.

I remember the Texas HS coach that was Rhule’s first hire for TEs was given cred for bagging Flynt. He didn’t last long.
