Got my vaccination today....

I’m not really trying to argue politics. In retrospect a lot of decisions were poorly made by both democrats and republicans. And to be honest I don’t see how anyone will be held accountable at all. I’m merely stating those states lead the death rates because they fell on the sword and the rest of the nation benefited from that sacrifice.

The medical professionals that cared for sick patients at the start of all this are absolute heroes.

I think you and you alone should be responsible for your health and well being. I did not follow Trump, Biden, Fauci, Pelosi, our liberal Governor Inslee, DeSantis or anyone else. My wife and I made our own plan.

I would bet as a perecentage of their population IF they did a statewide antibody survey, South Dakota would maybe have the highest percentage of people carrying COVID antibodies of any state in the union. Meanwhile their economy was kept open and kids were kept in school. I would say that maybe that was the smart way to handle this thing. We did the most harm to our youth by shutting down schools and sports. Meanwhile teen suicide rates and drug abuse have skyrocketed nationally while schools have been closed.

South Dakota's hospitals were never overwhelmed.
Then why were SD hospitals flying patients to hospitals in other states on December?

They also took patients from other states. My spouse works critical care in Yankton and she had lots of patients from Nebraska and some from Minnesota. In some cases the type of specialist needed to treat them was only available in Minneapolis or Rochester. South Dakota has a large Indian reservation up in their northeast corner. That is closer to Minneapolis than some of the other available ICU beds available in South Dakota. Some of it depends on which hospital system is being referred from and whether or not they have room in their referral center.. Sanford and Avera have different referral connections.

You're the one who picked per capita COVID deaths as the criterion. And by that measuring stick, South Dakota had the 43rd-best plan in the country.
Lock down or not mask or not you are going to get covid if it's your luck of the draw. Those measures do not stop it just maybe delay it if that.

The states everyone will want to li vf e in are going to be the ones that did not destroy their tax base by closing everything

South Dakota's death rate was betterthan 7 Democrat controlled states who locked down. So was that the only measuring stick? How many teenagers and young adults overdosed or committed suicide due to the measures imposed in New York. ONE of the reasons the CDC has come out in favor of opening schools is the shocking statistics they're seeing for suicides and overdose deaths. Violent crime, domestic abuse, child abuse are all up. How many kids should we have sacrificed in order to save people like me who should have been able to take care of themselves?

I didn’t make per capita COVID deaths the measuring stick - you did, when you stated (incorrectly) that South Dakota's death toll per million is below most Democrat controlled states.

Next time look up the numbers first - it will save you a lot of goalpost moving.

I'm not moving any goal posts. I knew the stat. My point was directed at the states who locked down and had statewide mask mandates. Considering that South Dakota had widespread tourism all summer, open bars and restaurants. open schools, and athletics with fans in attendance I think the comparison to states who locked down completely and had no open schools is remarkable.

I believe the after the fact results indicate that for the most part, business lockdowns were not effective in stopping the virus from spreading - not a lot of difference in the end for example between "tightly locked down" California and "open for business" Florida. What did spread the virus the most was personal social behavior, especially around holidays.

A lot of the business lockdowns didn't make sense to me either. Early on people were funneled into mostly large retailers while a lot of smaller stores had to stay closed. There were a few times when I would have felt a whole lot safer visiting my local lighting or paint store instead of standing in line at Home Depot.

Of the 7 states ahead of SD, 4 have Dem governors and 3 have Republican governors. Not everything is about politics. Holding South Dakota out as some sort of a standard for COVID treatment is ludicrous.

That explanation doesn't fit with this:

My wife is a RN. We have a pulse oximeter at home. She bought it after Covid broke out. She felt that low oxygen levels would indicate that we had Covid. It always showed us that we had good oxygen levels and normal pulse rates. We never did get it. We were both test twice and each time it was negative. As I have written I have now gotten both shots. I am not paranoid, but I still practice safe distancing. Wear a mask and stay away from other customers at the grocery store. Our ski hill is doing a lot to keep us safe. I get to the locker room really early so there is no one there. They have spaces between the lift lines and they are letting us ride the chair single if we want to. I ride with my good friends who I know are safe, but I will not ride a chair lift with someone I don't know. We have to keep our faces covered in the lift lines and the lift operators have been doing a great job enforcing this rule. We are not hanging out in the lodge. My friends and I gather at the back of one of cars to enjoy a beer afterwards. (All of us have had the shots now) The rest of time I am just with my wife and dog. So far the dog has not complained.
you Are vaccinated and outside. Don’t be so paranoid

You laugh but there actually is an Ayatollah in Iran with a following in the hundreds of thousands who is preaching to his followers to STAY AWAY FROM ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN VACCINATED with Western Covid vaccines because that vaccine turns people gay and they very well could sexually attack others that come near them. No kidding. It takes anti vaxxing to a brand new level.

My response to that would be that's why they require two shots. The first shot turns you and then the second shot is to reverse your polarity back to normal. Ha!
Nope. First one bi....or kinda gay. Second shot then makes you full blown gay.

This has been the biggest issue from the beginning. Everyone was so hell bent on stopping the virus they completely lost sight of the collateral damage the measures they put in place would have. I honestly don't think ANY cost-benefit analysis was done at all. How could it have been if they still did what they did?

They are somewhat waking up to that now, but it's way too late and the damage that has been done will be felt for decades.

The consensus among doctors was that FOR THE GOOD OF THE KIDS, schools should be open this fall. I have yet to see a directive from the CDC that recommended closing schools because of COVID. It was a political move driven by fear.

FACT CHECK. The Argus Leader is owned by Gannett News which is a progressive newspaper chain. They regularly run stories and editorials bashing the Republican leaders in South Dakota. Sioux Falls is a regional referral center on the border with Iowa and Minnesota. Avera and Sanford both take patients from SW Minnesota and NW Iowa. In some cases patients were referred in from those states. In some cases families request that their loved ones get moved to hospitals in the Twin Cities. Yankton SD was taking patients from Iowa and Nebraska at the height of the surge in cases. They always tried to reserve at least 10% of their ICU beds in case of trauma or other emergencies. My spouse was busy but not overwhelmed. MOST of the COVID patients were in a standard ward on a floor converted solely to COVID care and most received primarily supplemental oxygen via a nasal cannula.

you dont know what you are talking about. A vaccine helps prep the body's immune system to recognize and disable viruses. This would result in no or fewer symptoms and an inability to transmit the virus to others. Not sure what you are using as the definition of "contracting" an illness. A virus still enters your body even after being vaccinated. It is rendered harmless shortly after by the immune response of the body which was primed by the vaccine. There are a lot of common vaccines that are considerably less effective than 94%.
I wish you were right, but the covid "vaccine" is referred to as a vaccine by the media and not the manufacturers of it. The companies that make it call it "gene therapy" , interpret that as you wish. It doesn't sound like an actual vaccine to me.

Here is the Pfizer website description:
And here is Moderna's:

I'm not a pharmacist, but I see the word "vaccine" used a lot on both websites.

If it causes your body to produce something that your body needs to reject, it isn't a vaccine. This "vaccine" doesn't introduce a foreign body into your cells, it trains you to create it by reprogramming your dna/rna.

First "vaccine" that doesn't prevent you from getting any disease, it reprograms your dna/rna. I don't know about y'all, but I don't want my dna/rna to be altered. Our bodies ,by design, will create their own antibodies. That's why the polio and other real vaccines introduce a minimal amount of the actual condition to be prevented so our bodies will develop their own immunity towards it. The "covid" (insert a number) has been around since the 1950's, we all have a certain amount of immunity towards it. Alot like the flu, it changes from year to year and we have to develop new immunities all the time.

No it doesn't reprogram your dna:
  1. Do mRNA vaccines change a person’s DNA?
No, mRNA is a transient carrier of information that does not integrate into human DNA.[ii],[iii],[iv],[v]

Unlike a traditional vaccine that uses inactivated, dead, or portions of actual virus to spur an immune response, mRNA delivers a message to your body’s cells via a lipid nanoparticle envelope that instructs the cells to generate the spike protein found on the surface of a coronavirus that initiates infection.[vi],[vii] Instructing cells to generate the spike protein spurs an immune response, including generation of antibodies specific to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.

Actually this new mRNA vaccine technology seems psychologically safer to me. There's no "dead" virus injected into your body like old vaccine technology. Now of course I know a dead virus is safe but it just seems more dangerous to me from a purely psychological perspective. Others will have different opinions and focus on fears of "engineered synthetics".

Whats everyones thought on the J&J shot?
Well most people won't likely have a choice between the vaccines. If you're scheduled for a vaccination appointment you get what they got unless you have a medical reason for one or the other. In the news today a woman in her 80's got vaccinated with J&J because she had an uncommon allergy to the liquid used to reconstitute the frozen Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. She was a rare special case,

.......... it reprograms your dna/rna.

That is not true.

Just because someone posts something like "the pfizer vaccine will drive your car into a tree" on Twitter, does not make it so.

Even though someone

a) posted it and
b) may even believe it

I know a bunch of people who've gotten the vaccine, and none have experienced even minor side effects.

then again, none of them were in any sort of compromised position beforehand, so who knows.

I'll get it when my time comes, and I was dubious at the outset.

Wife got her first dose last week (teacher). Arm was sore for about a day, nothing else noted. Will see about the second dose.

Quite few of the younger people I know who have got the vaccine got pretty sick after the second shot. I think only 1 person I know said they were fine after the second shot.

How exactly are those 2 things different? It isn't reprogramming your DNA, it's just training your cells to produce something that is foreign to the body. Sounds like splitting hairs to me, and either way it seems pretty similar to how cancer works.
