OWH's Jon Nyatawa can tell a nice story.

Seniors Kyle Johnson and Kyle Wood combined for 10 hits (including two doubles, a triple and a home run), seven runs and seven RBIs on the weekend. To that point, NU had retired both of them just once in the same inning. So with the Huskers clinging to an 9-8 lead, they were getting a chance to at least tie the game — maybe more.

What was going through Luensmann’s mind in that moment?

“The next pitch,” he said.

Also... Lincoln Journal star story.

Any time you sweep 5-0 through a week it's a good week. Pitching and defense took a bit of a hit but, boy oh boy, did the offense sparkle or what?

We added 50 runs this week raising our season total from 100 to 150 (76th nationally). Big jump, no?

Batting average climbed nicely too from .280 to .297 moving us from 110th nationally to 61st.

Seven more home runs putting us at 26 on the season and 17th nationally. Placzek had three, Miller and Reveles had two each.

Ryan Boldt .444 with 2 doubles and a triple.

Could have made some serious cheddar if I had bet people before the season that Placek would be tied for the team lead with 6 home runs (and I believe #2 in the B1G). LOL

I would add that the offense "continued" to sparkle. I wouldn't have necessarily bet it, but wow has DE taking over the offense made a HUGE difference. Much less "small ball" and more driving the ball. I'm a fan of small ball in situations, but it's not the answer to everything. Drive the damn ball.

Cheddar is good. Did you know that cheddar is white until they add yellow coloring? New York style cheddar is white and the extra sharp is grrrrrrrreat.

How about Reveles? Four home runs and that grand slam plus yesterday's HR were absolutely clutch. Especially yesterdays.

Should say something about RISP.

Batted .391 with RISP this past week which was great to see. Never did less than .300 in any of the five games. Batted .571 in game 2 vs Purdue.

Avg w/ RISP is still 27 points behind our overall season average (.270 vs .297) but we made a big jump this week.

we could have one of the top 20 offenses in the country when all is said and done. you know and i know the B1G doesn't hold a candle to west coast pitching and we hit them alright.

good offense brings consistency to winning. good pitching brings tournament winning. we need to fix the consistency of the last one, but overall? encouraging.

for now we need to keep winning... period. i'll take ugly wins -- the pretty ones have been there occasionally too.

Even though I wasn't able to listen to any of the games all weekend I sure loved reading the recaps of each game. Scary defense the last game but they won. This team just needs to limit the ups and downs and keep that focus and they could do some damage this year.
