Good grief Minnesota looks bad

They look horrible tonight. Also, their "2nd round draft pick" QB has 45 yards passing in the third quarter. Not impressed at all. Look pretty sloppy.
Minnesota's blitzing has been solid but that's about it. Their TE looks good but their offense is pretty meh.

Two of their players have been ejected for targeting already. One was deserved, didn't see the other one.

They seem to be playing more stupid than bad. But they haven't been impressive for sure let alone significantly improved from last year.

Indiana looks like they haven't improved either. Their Defense may be better or at least faster and a bit more agressive. But on the flipside their Offense, most notably the OLine looks significantly worse.

Also, what the hell does ski-u-mah mean on the back of their helmets?

Hey, OSU is doing it with the players Riley recruited.

Unfortunately I don't think so. On D only the 3 linebackers, one DE and one Safety were Rileys. Most of the secondary and the line are either transfers or underclassmen.

On O the QB is a transfer and the other 10 are split half and half, half Rileys guys and half not.

Special teams have two seniors on KR but the snapper, holder and punter are all transfers

Minnesota deserved the targeting and should have been hit by one more. They tend to be late hitters and incredibly are leading with their helmets a lot. They look like a slightly dirty team out of the 70's; they better practice or they are going to get called a lot. The refs are very fair tonight; but if they get known, calls will get tight. GBR

They just got called for roughing the passer , and they are now reviewing for roughing plus targeting - it should be called. They are called for their third targeting penalty - again they have been a little dirty all night and use their helmets. Totally good calls.

Up by 8 almost guarantees win or OT
Up by 7 is lose or OT

That's a teachable moment.

I understand the math, but still.hate the decision.
Claeys has no business being a div 1 head coach.
Oregon state is terrible.
If Minnesota plays anyone with a pulse tonight they lose by 3plus scores..........

I actually thought about it being a possibility even before he decided to go for 2, but I didn't think he'd actually go through with it. Way too risky of a call especially for somebody who doesn't exactly have a lot of job security.

Oregon State is bad but I think it shows that Gary Anderson is a pretty decent coach. They had no business being in that game.

Kirk Herbstreet comes out looking really bad aa he picked the Gophers to win the west.

How's that? Minnesota is 1-0 and hasn't played a game in the B1G yet. I'm not saying they inspired me to jump on the bandwagon but it's not like Minnesota is out of the B1G west race

I can't see them sustaining their recent modest success without Coach Kill.
Living in Minnesota, Claeys has never struck me as head coach material. Obviously this is just one game, but going for 2 was a bad call any way you look at it. If Hoosker wanted to rail on this call, I think all of us would agree. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Claeys wont last imo...

It would have been great if OSU had then scored and got the 2-pt conversion to win.

math wise, it's close to the same rather you go for 2 or kick it. If you're the worse team, I think going for 2 is prob right. If you're the better team, it's prob wrong.

Didn't he also have a terrible call / game clock management last year against Michigan when they had a chance to win it?

Yes, had an incredibly slow developing play with shifts and stuff that ran 12 of the 17 remaining seconds off the clock. Gave them only enough time for 1 final play on 2nd down... Terrible clock management.

It almost feels like Claeys has to prove to everybody that he's not Jerry Kill... Doing things Jerry would never do. It's gonna backfire...

I think that is was a great call to send out your regular offense and PRETEND that you are going to go for two with 1:27 left in the game. If got the result I thought it would: the other team used one of its precious time outs that they absolutely could have saved for a game tying drive. But after OSU called a time out, then you trot out the extra point team and go up by 8pts, leaving the other team with only ONE time out left and needing to score a touch down and a two point conversion in order to go into OT with you.

I thought it was a solid decision, up until they actually snapped the ball and went for two.

He must of also be trying to prove he's not Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Mark Dantonio, Jim Harbaugh, Tom Osborne, Bill Belechick, Bill Parcells, Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi, etc. because I highly doubt any of those guys would have gone for two in that situation.
