I am happy White left. Forget the Iowa game. Iowa’s offense is awful. The fact is White’s defense was wildly inconsistent. Great one game terrible the next. And a penchant for wilting when the game was on the line.

Go out and get a new DC who can field a more consistent product. There is turmoil right now. But things will settle down after all the portal bullshit is over and we have our new DC

I hear you. However, if Satt wasn’t around nine games to ruin things and the offense had a pulse, defense did enough to win 8-10 games for sure as Huskers were blown out only once. My gripe is the defense could not keep the lead once the offense did muster a go ahead score. I swear if the offense scored, the next drive the opponent would score at an alarming rate.

White was mostly a positive from what I can tell. Not perfect but consistently gave us a chance to win.

I also don’t think the program is in chaos. Coaches have always moved on, and always will. Now players can do the same and with the 105 cap, they want to move early to maximize their options. And I think coaches want kids to move early if they are going to move at all so that they have time and options to replace them. I think outsiders, and I am one, look at the sudden flurry of movement and see chaos but it is probably more the natural order of things for any team not headed to the playoffs.

I don’t understand why people can’t see that we had to play coverage because our db’a were vulnerable in man. That wasn’t a scheme issue. It was a personnel issue. First season ever Nebraska didn’t allow a rushing touchdown at home the whole year. Back to back top 20 defenses. And yet it’s not enough. The defense wasn’t the issue last year or this year.

I get that, to an extent. It's 2024. He knew what he had for db's. And he clearly had one foot out the door. Find some legit portal help and have some urgency. Or coach some young guys up.

He did not expect to lose his DB coach right before fall camp. He did not expect Hill to be hurt all year. The defensive backs had a lot of adversity this year and for the most part weren’t able to overcome it. Hard to blame the coordinator and play calling for that.

I'm mostly upset/concerned that our defense will now have to learn a new system. I doubt the next guy will continue with the 3-3-5. It would be nice to have some continuity around here.

I'm not surprised White left. I'm mostly surprised it was a lateral move. Rhule has been saying for awhile that White deserved a HC position and would recommend him for such.

Bringing in Snow to observe the defense had to be weird. I know I wouldn't like it if my boss brought in someone to do something similar.

I wish him well. Next man up.

Sean Callahan mentioned that NU was 19th in total defense, but 51st in yards per play. Translates to NU playing slow on offense shortened the game. NU gave up fewer yards because the opposing offense ran fewer plays.

Yes. Screw the total defense stats. We gave up too many chunk plays and did not stop offenses when it mattered. Ohio State game is a great example. Played good defense the whole game and then, when we took the lead in the 4th, OSU marched the length of the field, chewed clock, and scored.

Yes our offense sucked. But so does Iowa’s and yet their defense did something ours never does: made a play at the end of the game that mattered. Michigan managed to hang on to a 13-10 lead over OSU. Us? Ha. But we played great in the second half against UCLA! Too bad the game has two halves. Because the first one was a back breaker.

Illinois? Shit. White got totally out coached in that game. Indiana? 😂😂😂

I am also tired of the melodrama. Will he stay or go? Fvck him. Go find us a fvcking DC who likes Lincoln and wants to be here.

It was a brilliant approach. Going 3 and out in a matter of a minute or less is lethal. Last Friday the play clock was often down to less than 5 seconds I wonder if that will remain the same next year

I think most people would feel weird if your boss brought in someone to watch you work. Hell, I can't even type correctly when someone is looking over my shoulder.

If you are not happy at your job and if you know other places want you and will pay you a little more, it is easy to leave.

We’ll never know for sure, but with the season on the line, and an employee who you believe is on the way out, you do what’s best for the team. That move might’ve even helped him to stop pussyfooting around and make his exit 100% certain. Not that he wanted him to go, but saw it as an inevitable, so, time to start planning for the future. Who knows, maybe Dannen directed Rhule to bring in fresh eyes.

I don’t have a problem with it and F Tony‘s feelings fwiw

I remember thinking in the second half that I expected Nebraska would not move the ball and score. Sucks that my mind goes there, but my eyes don’t deceive me.

His defense was good enough to win us a lot of games the past two years. But he was never going to stay here long so might as well cross this bridge. The real issue is who do we replace him with? I’m not exactly feeling confident about this.

I would look for that young energetic guy who is smart and can get the black shirt culture fired up. Could be another Bo Pelini out there somewhere.

The biggest problem this year is that he could not generate very many quarterback, hurries or sacks from his base defense. Without that, even average quarterbacks are going to convert 3rd downs.
Except for the Colorado game this is spot on which could have helped winning another game or two..

Tony white straight up admitted to calling a trash game vs Indiana. There were times the players messed up the call, but let's not pretend UNI, Illinois, UCLA, Ohio state were on them as a whole. The few time the offense gave the Defense an opportunity to hold a team while keeping the lead, the defense shit themselves. The rutgers game was good... but one could argue that their coaches called one of their arguably worst games offensively and we got a few key favorable calls as well. White is good and won't be simple to replace, but he shouldn't be exalted like he has been. A lot of red flags are being ignored

I think the 4-3 scheme fits our league the best. Not sure personnel wise

I think it fits Jeudy, RVP, Williams and Princewill great. Not sure where a guy like McGahee would play, since he’s kind of a tweener.

And the drama is over no more will he leave or will he stay, I believe his agent used to to a T it was getting old

I'd like to see what percentage of the time the other team scored on the next drive after we scored under White. I think he is a good DC, but it seemed we had a real problem stopping the other team in the moments when it mattered.

Have you watched the DL? We play with concrete cleats. We aren’t going to get the athletes here. Or they’ll be fast and skinny and we’ll get run all over. We won’t be able to recruit the studs here so it’ll be a pick your poison.

Quick slants and quick outs eat TW’s defense up. Illinois, Indiana ucla knew this and took advantages. Wisky called nothing but quick outs on their first drive and easily scored (then went away from it for some reason).

That being said TW knew shutting down the opponents run game was important and his defenses excelled at that.

I wouldn't say that I'm glad he's gone, but the whole will he stay or will he go deal last year left a bad taste in my mouth. Then he looked ill prepared for what Indiana threw at us. Rhule had to coerce him in to playing more 4 man fronts to counter some run designs. Cooper's stupidity was a killer for our defense though too.

I get that. It was a little concerning the best db was a guy who showed up in the middle of the summer who had quit football. And even then it was like he forced their hand on starting him.

I don't think White was a world-beater, and I certainly think NU can find someone as good or better if they are aggressive and step outside of the good ol' boy network.

But for a lot of people on this board, it seems like White's biggest crime is that he was actually good enough at his job that other programs want him. Too bad that isn't a more widespread problem among the NU coaching staff.

White joins an exclusive group that includes Lance Van Zandt and Monte Kiffen as coordinators at NU over the last 50 years that weren't shown the door or rode off into retirement. Has there been anyone else?

Offensive and defensive playcalling has to be complimentary. Rhule locking up Holgersen right away, allows them to discuss the offense going forward, then Rhule can find a defensive coordinator that will compliment that offense.

Charlie was in Lincoln for quite awhile, and those after him have been victims of the pink slip, some earned (Chins) and some not (Mark Banker).
