Problem is that the audience that should be listening is deaf. Some folks need to watch some of the cut ups of run plays from Friday. I think it will become shockingly evident that winning 9 games with that rag tag bunch on defense and keeping the defense together is nothing short of a miracle.
None of that could be practice related, coaching related.
None of it.
We simply sign players, they go play, if they do good they have talent, if they dont they dont have talent.
Remind me again why coaches are even paid?

I'll play along... Sure, it could be that these coaches don't practice well or coach well. It easily could be that.

At the same time, it could also be a lack of talent in spite of any coaching and attempts to improve the guys.

Is that fair?

Yes.
Ill also point out that im not trying to bash these coaches per se, but pointing out a major trend i see on this board, that recruiting is the end all. It isnt.
Iowa is not more talented than we are by the players natural ability or previous high school coaching in itself. Whoever thinks that is crazy. But since they play better, everyone thinks they are more talented. I maintain that they were coached better and were much more prepared, both physically and mentally, and that made them maximize their talent and play better than us. 30 points better.
I posted in athread a comparison between usc and standord that perfectly illustrates my point.
I agree that having better recruiting is a good thing. But it doesnt mean piss if its not utilized.

So what we have here is likely a combination of both.

I agree that, for whatever reason, the team wasn't properly prepared last Friday. I'm not sure what the coaches did to prepare the team, but it wasn't enough.

At the same time, our best QB was a converted wide receiver. And as has been well documented for several days now, we lack the depth on the offensive line to do a whole lot. Could the issue have been coaching on the Oline as well? Absolutely it could have been. I love football but have never played it and don't know the nuances many on this board seem to have. So I can agree that the issue against Iowa was both coaching related and talent/depth related.

As we continue to plug holes with recruiting it will be even more apparent if the coaching is not up to snuff.

Coaches first team defense only included players from Iowa, Michigan, Ohio St, & Wisconsin.

Those 4 teams took half of honors: 17 out of 34

Michigan had 3 D-backs, 2 linebackers, and 3 D-lineman. 8 of 11 on their defense made top 3 teams.

Not many accolades left for the Huskers when the top teams in the conference play great defense, as you would expect.

So is this is a reflection of our defensive talent? Maybe that helps explain the two blowouts. Our D-Line has got to improve greatly or our defense will never become dominant.

Well, for the record, there are way more teams to divide up these spots now, compared to previous years, but including only one defensive player in the top three teams is pretty sad. I heard every one of Michigan's defensive players were represented, so it can be done.

I think we'll be ok at DT next year but our DEs HAVE to get much better.
