Geno Smith was sucker punched by a teammate today and has a broken jaw. Out 6-10 weeks.

player was released immediately.

well, say goodbye to that career, dumba$$.

I wonder if Geno could sue that dude. Not that he needs it, but it would sure piss me off.

I don't know. I bet there is a high market for a backup linebacker that sucker punches starting QBs.

I bet he got disrespected. You can't let people disrespect you or you lose all cred.

What an idiot. Then again, if you are looking for place with a dense population of idiots and would be criminals an NFL locker room would be a good place to start

The guy that hit him was previously arrested for assault/battery of a cop.

Who knew that Geno Smith was really Glass Joe all along..........?????

Curious how expensive this sucker punch is going to be in the end.. it's gotta be a 6 figure thing.. what an idiot

I wouldn't want to get sucker punched by this dude...

Heck this might workout for Geno when all is said and done. He may be able to negotiate a new contract based on potential ability as he won't be able to showcase his actual abilities this year due to the injury.

Many expected him to solidify his bust status with his play this year. Now he might get paid based on potential.

perhaps, but if ritchie incognito got sat down for a couple years for 'bullying', how long will the broken jaw of a qb get you?

Sure he could sue him. If the guy has money, and the punch really was out of the blue, he might collect a pretty good chunk from him.

His bigger concern should be how much jail time he gets. So much for him putting on football camps.

I suppose Geno could file a complaint with the PD and this guy could get criminal charges. However, I can't think of instances in pro sports where this has happened before.

Anybody remember the Gino's fast food chain?

Ritchie sat because of politics, I seem to remember there being racial overtones in his case

If geno was running his mouth, and was acting aggressively, which is a real possibility, he might not get a dime, and he may have committed a crime as well

I heard that Gino told the guy he would work his football camp so the guy bought him a plane ticket, but Gino blew it off and wouldn't pay the kid back the money for the plane ticket. Just speculation, but I think Gino is as much to blame for this as anyone-- especially if he started the fight and wasn't sucker punched. Gino may have had it coming.

Sounds like Geno provoked it and it wasn't a sucker punch. Geno owed him $600 and refused to pay it. He put a finger in Ik's face and said "What are you going to do about it?". Also, the Bills picked up Ik right away so I'm guessing Rex Ryan knows full well the character of the two guys.

From what has been said about this incident from numerous sources, it sounds like Geno had it coming. The boy ain't real smart...you don't get in the face of a player who is paid to hit people for a living, granted not necessarily punching people in the mouth but most definitely hitting.

When you are in an argument about screwing over another guy by not attending his camp that you committed to go to, and then you put your finger in his face, you better be read for a right cross. Geno was not ready. This was by no means a sucker punch. Geno is a tool and a terrible QB. The Jets will be much better without him.

Geno shoved for no reason the 70 something coach Wally Burnham of ISU as WV was coming off the field the last time they played. Geno was running his mouth and the coaches son who is also a coach at ISU confronted him and was still flapping his gums after the halftime. He is a dick and probably found someone under 70 to mess with was more then he could handle.

Punk.
His former coach signed the guy who decked him.

I think Rex just wanted to shake the hand that broke Geno's face.

Not saying it was right, but if someone owed me $600 and refused to pay it, I might try to break their jaw too.

This is another example of why people need to not always automatically believe the first thing you hear.
