The only thing I can think of is that Gary wanted away from Barry in the worst way. The Oregon State job is a big step down. It made no sense.hes struggling mightily at Oregon State. Everyone needs to be patient. Every coach should get minimum 4 years before any tries to make a change
Depends, if there is not improvement year 2 from year 1, sometimes enough is enough.

you would really give riley 4 years if he continues to demonstrate a lack of basic understanding of clock mgmt/end of game play calling? that's crazy.
Some of you are dumber than dumb. Jesus you can't even compare the two situations. Clearly, our staff isn't experienced with spread option talent on offense and our secondary is atrocious. No one said wait 4 years to win anything. Just you can't give up before he has his guys in place. Michigan has ridiculous talent and Jim harbaugh, who's name gives instant credibility with any player. We don't have that. Never will until one of our alumni Is a coaching prodigy. Get a grip on reality and give these guys a chance

are you kiddin'? FOUR years......we'll be Colorado Puffs by then.hes struggling mightily at Oregon State. Everyone needs to be patient. Every coach should get minimum 4 years before any tries to make a change
Enough of the GTFO bit. You're comparing apples to hand grenades. #1 This isn't 9-4 talent. You're forgetting that Ameer bailed us out of at least one loss and Randy Gregory was an elite pass rusher and hes gone too. This team has 12 walk ons in the 2 deep and 6 starters. Find me another ranked team in that situation. Michigan.....Brady Hoke recruited at a very high level and Michigan is full of talent. The scenario at the 2 schools are not even remotely comparable.Riley stated himself he wasn't hired to build, he was hired to win now. He isn't young enough to build. In 4 years he will be dam near 66. We gotta wait until he's 66 for him to start winning. GTFO. He took 9-4 talent and has them at 2-4. Does Michigan need 4 years?

I think your first point is irrelevant because on signing day our class will look much different than it does now due to being complete. We are serious contenders for several very talented kids and I believe our class this year will be very solid with several kids that have an early shot to contribute. If it doesn't I will adjust my thoughts accordingly. It does no good to have such a pessimistic outlook at this point in time. I think we do indeed have some good backs and maybe even a couple special guys. Because this staff likes to pass, pass blocking is an important skill that evidently most of them still need work on. I'm sure we have more talented runners than Newby but how would people react if someone whiffed on a block and got Tommy broken? We also need more talent on the OL before our running game can really excel. And Mike Riely is recruiting this talent now at NU? How's NU's recruiting look now? Not talking what maybe, or could be. I'm asking you the way it looks now. what kind of verbals he looking at right now? The type of high level Hoke recruited. If your saying MR can't win without top 10-15 recruiting, how's the future looking?
One thing you can say about BO, is he always found a RB. every year he was here he had a NFL back on the roster. Helu -Rex - Ameer. That staff really messed up but they did good jobs with backs here. So when you say Ameer bailed out the team last year, I'm sure he did. But I believe there is a back on this roster who could bail us out this year. That's football. next man up. Rex was a hard loss. Helu was a difficult loss. But someone stepped up. NUs recruited a very high level of backs that are on the current roster. i believe in these kids.
Stevenson will be a star.
An Ameer fumble cost us the MSU game and Randy Gregory didn't play for at least 2 of our wins last year.
AA gave us a 7 point lead we were not behind....this is why people rail on .538 so hard because of the constant excuse making by bringing up a coach everyone says is terrible. What does that make Riley.
What has Riley done comparable to Pinkel, Saban or Les Miles get real.
He has coached college for 30 years.
The fans were calling for his head at Oregon state.Since people like to use the talent excuse, Riley didn't exactly leave the cupboards full in Corvallis. Most experts predicted they'd be lucky to win 4 games this year.
OVER HALF OF OUR DEFENSIVE STARTERS WERE OUT FOR THE WISCONSIN GAME AND WE LOST BY A FIELD GOAL! We were SCREWED if we had lost ONE linebacker or DE this year because of BP's mismanagement let alone half the damned defense. BP's lazy recruiting that gave us guys with "issues" like Moss and Alexander cost us two more potential scholarship starters. Bo encouraging Love to transfer cost us a linebacker that would have been on the 2-deep. Who the heck knows what happened with David Santos but that was another 2-deep linebacker lost. Then there were the scholarship guys that got kicked off the team shortly after they got here for fighting among other things. More great citizens brought in by Bo. ADD that all up and couple it in with the injuries and I just don't know what you guys expected this year.Sorry if we only wins 4 games this season, no way in hell does he deserve 3-4 years. Yes, he needs time to get his own players, but at the same time, not getting this roster (not that it's a great roster by any means) to a winning season along with his history at Oregon State/San Diego....would not be good. His recruiting isn't exactly killing it at this point either, even though it may be slightly better than Bo's (which isn't saying much). I hated this hire from the beginning, but hopefully MR can turn this thing around.
