I won't claim to be fond of Frank Martin, but his team's defensive intensity is very impressive - especially their commitment to defending the perimeter. You don't see Martin's players half-assing their way to close out on shooters, then saying, "Welp, they were jus' hot from the arc. What are ya gonna do?"

Just goes to show you that a coach's environment, resources, players and setting differs by each school where he coaches. It's nearly always about the right fit for any coach. Frank Martin failing at Kansas State but then taking South Carolina to its first ever Final Four... mind boggling but tell-tale nonetheless.
I guess I would hardly call Frank Martin at K State a failure. I'm not quite sure why he left, but he averaged 23 wins per season there and never won less than 21 games there. Not sure if his Pelini type style wore thin there or if he wanted out because of the AD or what, but like I said I would hardly call it a failure.
Very true. I had forgot that he had success there and simply left for South Carolina. My mistake. Kansas State has to be feeling it from yesterday and today, though. Ouch.
Just think. KSU has 2 former coaches in the Final Four this year and another one with team in the Final Four last year.
Winning wasn't the problem at K-State. He had excellent connections for recruiting as well. His downfall was his demeanor on the court. More than one person has told me his F bombs were consistently heard at games. I wouldn't say this was the only reason he left KSU. Sometimes age and experience can soften a person.
