We are finally less than a week to the first game of the Riley era and many people have posted a lot of question marks about the upcoming season. While I don't believe all questions will be answered after the first week, I am most curious to see what our offense looks like for the BYU game. For example, how much we mix in the run, how effective we are at completing the short routes, how much Armstrong is cut loose to make plays with his feet, etc.

What are you MOST looking forward to seeing during the BYU game?

May seem odd, but I'm looking at the defense as a whole, including the 2 deep. I know they will improve throughout the season, but I just want to see the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.

The atmosphere in Lincoln. I know the product on the field will be solid. I am wondering how different it will feel in Lincoln at the bars and tailgates.

For me it is two items:

1. How Tommy actually looks / fares. It sounds like he is doing everything right and making a lot of progress, but how will that transfer to the game. Does he revert back? Is it the Tiger Woods syndrome of killing it at the range, but looking awful on the course?

2. Defense. We have a ton of studs on the D, but how will we execute in the new system? Are we actually able to stop the run better? Do we give up big pass plays... The player on D I will be watching is Banderas. On paper he looks like a stud, and it sounds like he has been better, but the proof will be what he shows on the field. So far, IMO, he has not lived up to his potential. It could have been Pelini, but he was a piss poor tackler even when he made the correct read. We are going to need him to tackle, and actually show his talent.

I'm as excited as I have been in a long time about Husker Football. I may have the blinders on, but this year could definitely be one that gets us back on the right track. The first game should finally shine some light on the new look Huskers. GBR.

Most importantly, are we strong enough to win?

How organized are we? Is everyone set and in position, or do we look like the keystone cops?

Defense, defense, defense. I have been saying all summer that the biggest thing for me is to stop seeing the big blowouts. We've been hearing about how simplified this D is and attacking will be the norm so If we go out and let BYU throw up 30+, what does that show us? Like OP mentioned, we won't have all the answers Saturday, but out of the gate I would hope to have more questions on O than on D.

Do we look like an organized team. Was getting sick of seeing wasted time outs, false starts, defenders looking at the sideline when the ball was snapped (or not even in their stances yet), etc.

I am going to assume we are going to stop the run more effectively, because we will have one more LB playing in the box most of the time. But I do wonder if we are going to give up more big yards in the passing game, due to playing more press coverage.

If HCMR's behavior on the sidelines warrants the network dedicating a "Mike cam" to catch all the unpleasantness.

I want to see a play where each DL gets 1/4 sack and the BYU qb has bubbles coming out of his nose.

I am looking forward to seeing the crowd, believe it or not. My Spider Sense is warning me that this may be the most electric atmosphere for an NU home game in a long, long time.

Me too. If he shows improvement I won't have to listen to your whiny ass the entire season. :p

All funnies aside, I'm not sure we're going to see a lot of improvement from TA this year. I'm just hopeful that he remains steady and picks up the new system from Riley (and staff). It's too bad TO didn't do a real search 7 years ago. MR could have been on year 8 at this point.

Let it be known I suggested Riley 4-5 years ago on this very board, so if he works I will be thumping my chest. If he doesn't, I will forget I ever mentioned it and develop a severe case of amnesia. But yeah, we all want the same thing, and I hope I have to come on this board and say I was very wrong about TA. I would love to eat a big fat serving of crow. Absolutely love it.

Spot on. Hind sight is 20/20, but where would MR have us right now after 7 years. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...and it all starts THIS WEEKEND!
