The Matchup
Nebraska heads on the road for the second time in Big Ten Conference play this Saturday when Nebraska travels to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Game time from Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium is set for shortly after 6:30 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on FS1. The game can be heard on the Husker Sports Network from Learfield-IMG.

The contest is a key early-season matchup in the Big Ten West Division race, with both schools looking to establish themselves as division contenders as the 2019 season reaches the midway point.

Nebraska will bring a 4-2 record into the contest, including a 2-1 mark in Big Ten Conference play. The Huskers are coming off a dramatic 13-10 victory over Northwestern in Lincoln, winning the game on a field goal as time expired. The last-second victory over the Wildcats marked just the second time in Memorial Stadium history that Nebraska has secured a victory on a walk-off field goal.

Minnesota enters the game with a perfect 5-0 record, including a 2-0 mark in Big Ten Conference play. The Gophers are coming off a 40-17 victory over Illinois on Saturday in Minneapolis to keep their perfect start intact. Minnesota has relied on an explosive offense, averaging 410 total yards and 35.8 points per game. The Gophers have won their past seven games overall, including a win over Wisconsin in the 2018 regular-season finale and a victory in the Quick Lane Bowl. The Gophers are ranked No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and are just outside of the top 25 in the AP Poll.

Series History
Minnesota holds a 32-25-2 edge in the all-time series between the two schools, including a 22-13-2 advantage in games played in Minneapolis. The Huskers are 2-2 in four games at Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium. The Huskers own a 5-3 advantage over the Gophers since joining the Big Ten Conference, including last year's 53-28 win in Lincoln.

Minnesota a Memorable Matchup for Several Years
Nebraska defeated Minnesota 53-28 last season for the Huskers' first win of the season. Nebraska put up some noteworthy numbers in last year's meeting, and several current Huskers have enjoyed memorable matchups with Minnesota.

- Nebraska put up 659 yards of total offense in last year's win over Minnesota, which at the time marked the Huskers' highest output ever in a Big Ten Conference game (NU broke the record with 674 yards of total offense at Illinois last month.)

- The Huskers scored 53 points last season against Minnesota, which marked the first time Nebraska had scored 50 points in a Big Ten Conference game

- Last year's 53-28 victory over Minnesota marked Scott Frost's first win as Nebraska's head coach

- Adrian Martinez (125 yards) and Maurice Washington (109 yards) each had the highest rushing totals of their career in last season's matchup with the Gophers, when the Huskers had three 100-yard rushers for the fifth time in school history

- Martinez completed his first 11 passes in last year's game and finished 25-of-29 for 276 yards, completing 86.2 percent of his passes. The effort set a Nebraska record for a quarterback who attempted at least 20 passes in a game

(ESPN) LINCOLN - A bucket of sports drink having been just poured over his head, Scott Frost wrapped up a quick television interview near midfield and started sprinting off the field at Memorial Stadium.

Moments after the clock hit zeroes on a 53-28 victory over Minnesota Saturday, it was time for him to soak it all in.

As he ran through the end zone and entered the tunnel, Frost took off his cap and held it high to thank the fans who had waited seven games for the native son who won so many times as a player on this field to pick up his first win as coach.

"I just didn't expect it to be in October," Frost said. "But we've got as good a fans as there are in the country. They're loyal. They're supportive. Our kids appreciate it them. They're fighting hard for them. Yeah, I almost teared up running off the field. That was a special moment."

A week after squandering a late 10-point lead at Northwestern and losing in overtime, the Huskers (1-6, 1-4 Big Ten) scored on three of their first four possessions on their way to a 28-0 lead.

Minnesota (3-4, 0-4) made things interesting, though, scoring on three possessions in a row spanning the halves, with backup quarterback Tanner Morgan replacing Zack Annexstad to open the third quarter and leading two straight touchdown drives to pull the Gophers to 28-22.

"That's how this whole year has been. We're going to have to play well for four quarters," Frost said. "We're getting better every day. We're still not so good we can sleep on a lead or not play our best. So proud of this team. They could have quit a long time ago. They could have shut it down. This team every week does more of what we ask them, does it better, keeps getting better. That was a pretty good show out there today."

Barrett Pickering kicked a field goal between Adrian Martinez's TD passes of 35 and 67 yards to Stanley Morgan Jr. to break things open again, and as the 365th home consecutive sellout crowd started sensing the end of the program-record 10-game losing streak, a chorus of "Go Big Red" chants began.

Nebraska rushed for 383 yards and totaled 659. Devine Ozigbo ran for 152 yards, Martinez for 125 and Maurice Washington for 109.

Martinez completed 25 of 29 passes adding up to 276 yards and three TDs. Stanley Morgan caught 10 balls for 163 yards, both career highs.

Tanner Morgan was 11 of 16 for 214 yards and Annexstad 9 of 20 for 135. Gophers coach P.J. Fleck said Annextad had to leave the game because of an internal injury in his midsection. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

"Congratulations to Coach Frost," Fleck said. "It's a big deal, everybody remembers your first. This team should be 5-1 or 4-2. We didn't stop them tonight at all. We didn't tackle well. We didn't set an edge."

-----------------------------------------------

Nebraska outgained Minnesota 659 (276 pass, 383 rush) to 474 yards (349 pass, 125 rush). Both teams committed one turnover in the contest. Nebraska was penalized six times for 43 yards, while Minnesota was flagged eight times for 80 yards.

For the Huskers, Adrian Martinez was 25-of-29 for 276 yards with 3 TDs and no interceptions, he also carried the ball 15 times for 125 yards and scored one TD on the ground.

Devine Ozigbo was the leading rusher for the Big Red with 12 carries for 152 yards and 2 TDs, and Maurice Washington added 14 carries for 109 yards and 1 TD.

Stanley Morgan Jr. was the leading receiver with 10 catches for 163 yards and 2 TDs while JD Spielman added 8 catches for 77 yards and a TD.

For the Gophers, Tanner Morgan was 11-of-16 for 214 yards with an interception, while Zack Annexstad was 9-of-20 for 135 yards with one TD. Mohamed Ibrahim was the leading rusher with 18 carries for 49 yards and a score, while Morgan added four carries for 35 yards and a TD on the ground. Minnesota was led in receiving by Tyler Johnson who hauled in 11 receptions for 184 yards and Chris Autman-Bell had two catches for 75 yards in the loss.
