I saw that in what I read, but any idea why the waiver was granted?Originally posted by jlb321:
BIG granted a waiver -- he is eligible immediately
It's not actually, as he will be graduating this May. He has fulfillled his academic obligations and therefore is given a waiver because of it. It's all about the B1G putting academics first. He can choose where he wishes to attend graduate school and Michigan is where he's been looking for months now.Originally posted by 4.6.3:
That is complete horseshit. I have no love lost for the Martinez family, but doesn't the Drake have to sit out this year to make it 2 years since he was at Nebraska. This shouldn't he allowed to stand. Complete horseshit.

Exactamundo, he is graduating with a bachelors in MicroBiology(i think that's what it is), and wishes to pursue graduate school. Plus he'll get a chance to play and lead the way in the Big House. I can't say I blame him. I wish we could keep him for extra security at QB, but I'm glad he's getting a great opportunity. CJ is now the man,...be afraid, be very afraid..Originally posted by Nebraska Fan:
He graduated at Iowa and is going to Michigan as a graduate. If Michigan has a graduate program that fits him best I don't know why he should be forced to lose out on the opportunity.
The 2-year sit out policy is a deterrent. As an example, a national elite player is on a poor or marginal team. If they would start for the best team, what keeps them from transferring.Originally posted by 4.6.3:
I did not know he is graduating. Still seems strange to me with the B1G being stuck in the stone ages with almost every other policy, expecially the one where you have to sit out 2 years if you transfer within conference and do not have a diploma. Seems kind of backwards if you are going to say "it is all about the student-athlete".
