And he needs to stop the BS about Riley misleading him about the offense. My goodness, it isn't like we are going back to Osborne's offense. There is still going to be a lot of passing. He is a 17 year old true freshman who was in the mix for playing time. And he is complaining?
I agree with those on here who have been saying this has a lot to do with being behind Spielman
The kid talks like Riley promised him we would look like a Texas Tech or Cal offense. Yeah no that isn't happening here. The kid just needs to let it go, enroll in JUCO and try to catch on with another D1 team.
I disagree and hear me out...I think head coaches should basically say anything they can to get good players on campus. If Riley is recruiting a typical Bama RB you better believe I want him telling that cat the plan is to run him 30 times a game.
It should be like a car salesman telling a guy "Hey, this minivan actually has the same horsepower as a 911, it just happens to be in a minivan"
1. You tell EVERY player you expect them to come in and get playing time as a freshmen because you expect every player to work hard and you recruited them for their talent and work ethic.
2. You tell EVERY player whatever it takes to get them on your team if you think they will help you out.
In the end, you are recruiting them for a reason. You think they will help your team in one way, shape or form. Riley knows that Grimm could totally help the team so you do what you can to get him and hope he buys in or "sees the light"

Ha! Shoot, if my million dollar job depended on 17 year old kids...I would be telling lineman that they would get snaps at QB and RB if they wanted...Just get them on campus!
That's kind of how I saw it too. We told you the direction we want to go in the future and you have seen the QB's we have recruited, but this is what gives us the best chance to win right now.
For this year I believe Riley will run a lot, next year the offense changes again suited more towards MR style of offense. MR found out last year he can't put a square peg in a round hole. He admitted that much already. By year 4 there probably will be 4-5 WR sets...
Exactly. Of course we aren't going 4 wide all the time this year with Tommy as QB

I know times are different than when I was a kid, with all of this gender identity stuff going on today. If I was a 17/18 year old boy, the last thing I would want the whole nation to know is that I can't be too far away from mommy and daddy. I'm sure some kids struggle and some don't. Figure it out. Find a partner, find multiple partners. Find a church, find something that you can be a part of. If you still can't handle it, then say something else besides I miss mommy and daddy. Holy crap.
I couldn't wait to get away from mom & dad. Spent my freshman year in Lincoln. Loved it. Unfortunately, I had no direction and it was unfair to expect my parents to pay for out-of-state tuition. Transferred to a school back here in Texas. Before school started, parents informed me they were moving far away. There was no way I was moving away from the city and my friends to some strange rural location. No way. Not at 19. I was officially on my own. Got a job and paid my own way. I still think fondly back to my freshman year in Lincoln. I'm best friends with my freshman roommate from the dorms to this day. Never would have thought it back then.

Sounds like we have our answer as to the effort that went into keeping him around. They did what they could, but when a kid is determined to be bitter and his family is willing to let him come home and pout, this is what you get. Now we know he wasn't just homesick and frustrated about an RS, he *believed* he should be playing and he couldn't cope with not being where he thought he should be on the depth chart. Which is a different animal than just being homesick.
I just hate to see a kid have his head wrong like that and make such a short-sighted decision. How stupid to quit a major D1 school and go play JUCO ball when you were good enough to get on the field with all 4 of your years still in your pocket. The phrase "youth is wasted on the young" has bounced through my head a lot of times lately.
Can't decide how I feel about their decision to RS him after they knew he was already thinking of quitting the team. If you promised him PT and you didn't want to run him off, that's not the smartest move. But at the same time, how are the rest of the guys supposed to work hard if there's not a meritocracy.

There are only a handful of JUCO programs that can pull more than 100 fans/game. Another thing he may not enjoy.
Yea hard to understand, he doesn't understand TA isn't a 4 wide QB? He doesn't see who they are recruiting? Sad I was looking forward to seeing him score a lot of TDs for us.
Gotta think if Coach Dub didn't get suspended, kid wouldn't have transferred. He needed someone to talk him down from jumping but he had no one. Riley has too much going on to do that front line stuff. Whose running WRs right now? Whose their mentor? Who ever it is already failed
Coaching WideOuts is like coaching basketball. Lot of prima Donnas there. Lotta guys you have to treat with kid gloves. Think a guy like JP & Cav could coach WideOuts? We wouldn't have any of them left after 2 weeks. It takes a special guy to do it. Gotta be tuff on them, don't get me wrong at that, you just gotta take your foot off of the gas sooner then at most spots. This is typical WideOut drama. And I'm not saying all WR are that way, just a lot of them get butt hurt easier than any other spot except maybe QB

I'm actually amazed this doesn't happen more often, with so many players coming out of high school with major hype and unrealistic expectations about immediate playing time, and the math just isn't in their favor. Hopefully Grim will figure that out and make the most of his next opportunity.

The dude has been unhappy since his arrival... He wanted to leave after spring ball but the coaches wouldn't release him... Told him to give it a second chance. His heart was never here is what it sounds like to me.
It takes balls to look at this situation and say it wouldn't have happened if Williams were here to talk to him and even more balls to say whoever has stepped in failed.
The prima Donna stuff I get... I even agree that not everybody can coach the WR position. But I don't agree that not having Williams to talk him off the ledge, and an unworthy coach taking his place is where to place the blame. His mind was already made up...
Of course this is my opinion, who knows if you're right or I'm right or neither one of us is... We just see it differently.
