Four-Star Husker target Thomas Fidone was one of the top...

It pains me to say it but if the kid wants to become a NFL TE, would be an easier sale for the Iowa coaches. They have put them in the league the past decade: Hockenson, Fant, Kittle, Fiedorowicz, Moeaki, Myers, Chandler, and Dallas Clark. We have to go back to Tracey Wistrom (2002) to find the last Husker TE drafted. The next one before that was Johnny Mitchell (92). Our most successful NFL TE was an Iowa kid (Jamie Williams) with 11 years in the league.

Frost and Beckton put one in the NFL two years ago and the way they used him should appeal to a TE that actually wants to catch the ball.

So...the arguments are now about interstates, rest areas and pigs vs. corn...with both sides saying the other have fat residents. Maybe a bit too similar ;)

The problem Iowa has with Fidone is two fold. We have a ton of talent right now and that just signed at TE so playing time might be tough. Plus, he is from Council Bluffs so probably an easier recruitment target for Nebraska in some ways. Think it will be a hard get for Iowa to get him to IC.

I would be concerned about QB development if I were Iowa. Stanley didn't seem any better now than he was a couple of years ago. Just a guy basically and not a difference maker. Put a well above avg QB on that team this year and they may have been undefeated playing Ohio St in the title game. Instead, they scored a combined 37 pts in their 3 losses.

This has been one of their sticking points with Iowa fans. Our QBs seem to digress the longer they had been in the system.

What? Noah Fant was severely under-used his last season at Iowa. When the media asked Ferentz why, he said Fant "is more of a specialist".

That was a very interesting time. What the media had a very difficult time getting their minds wrapped around was that Fant was TE2 behind Hockenson. If KF would have used the current buzzword "move TE" he would have been saying the same thing, accurately.

if you have two first round picks at TE, you should probably be in 2 TE formations basically the whole game.

Down and distance be damned? The point is that the narrative of Fant being "severely underutilized" is inaccurate and was perpetrated by people not recognizing the elevation of TJ Hockenson to Mackey Award level. Preseason, those accolades were given to Fant. The reversal of roles, and its unfolding in real time was …. let's just say interesting.
