that we can just back up to a prospective football or basketball coach.

Someone referenced this article this am on 1620 (SIAP). Interesting numbers nationwide regarding public universities. Of the public universities in the BIG, 6 turned a profit in 2014. Nebraska had a profit of $3.9 million, far behind OSU and Michigan (31 and 15 million). We are even behind Indiana, in profit. We are #7 in total spending.

Kind of interesting numbers when you consider I've seen posts from some who seem to think Nebraska can afford to offer $4-5 million a year like it is nothing.

But isn't the reason our profit is lower than other B1G schools is because we aren't in full revenue sharing yet? Won't that number jump up substantially in the next few years?

And didn't we pay Peelini his full buyout instead of in payments after he inked a minimum wage job at YSU

NU is taking in a lower revenue share and paying the old staff as part of those figures. FB, MBB and VB are all profitable. That puts NU in very rare company to have 3 profitable sports. Though one wonders how long MBB stays that way......

With future revenues figured in NU is going to have a large surplus - they are profitable right now and it will get much better

I think NU should be on the leading edge of paying coaches rather than a follower. Its already happening we might as well start now so we can get decent coaches. The pay thing is not just going to be head coaches but assistant coaches salaries are going to skyrocket. If you step out first you are better off than being behind

I don't think so. That would be incredibly dumb seeing that we do not what his future employment might be.

P.S. Then again, you are talking about our Athletic Department.

Because we can.

Correct.

Not to my knowledge, thought it was monthly payments.

That's a good point about the TV revenues, and I'd be interested in how that is reflected in the numbers when Nebraska gets the full amount.

Regarding the Pelini buyout, I would doubt that figures into the 2014 numbers reflected in this article, as he was still employed until what, late November. I would think that would be reflected in 2015 costs. $7.5 million is a lot of cash plus approximately $4 mil for his staff according to the below article. Not sure if that $4 mil was lowered due to some getting jobs for 2015?

Monthly payments means you can adjust for future earnings, and that was always my understanding. It beats fighting Bo in court in the future to get the adjusted amount back.

I hope we could pay that range now if we had to, but it just seemed to me without full TV revenue and the Bo and Staff buyouts still looming, I don't see it as possible today, or a few months ago as some would have liked. Maybe I'm wrong.

8000 butts in seats for all volleyball matches is certainly a plus that I can't imagine too many other schools can approach.

That is a scary thought.

Nationally - the majority of programs don't turn a profit. Nebraska does - and will continue to do so even if MBB stumbles. With regard to assistant coaches (for FB anyway) - we typically have been in the Top 4 within conference. Nationally might be where we see a big gap - especially vs. SEC. But SEC spending has turned into an arms race (ignoring what other conferences are doing).

You are.

I have heard chatter that monthly was agreed upon, but at some point a lump sum was paid out so as to end any "relationship" for years. It could have just been chatter though.

i seem to recall that Bo is getting about $176k/month

his meager youngstown st salary was deducted from what is due him

not a good move obviously to extend his contract for a couple years

If NU provided more money for football they would have the same set of coaches that they should have paid substantially less for when they were brought in.

If you're going to pay top dollar then they all better recruit and coach like Charlton Warren.

Tom used up a lot of my good will by insisting on doing that.
