For the guys questioning why Gates had a tough time with Barnett in the bowl game.

#14 pick overall. He may be the best pick I've seen in the first round. Great fit for Phillie and I think that's the first time I haven't heard Eagles fans boo their first round pick.

That is truth, a terrific player. My concern is there are ways to better deal with the difference in talent. Even allowing for some panic; the opposing player was basically allowed free reign on running his moves. That made many question what had been coached. I believe extra attention and expanded decision making is the state of O line coaching now; this will be better. GBR

Eagles fan, but not particularly thrilled with the pick. May be a good player, but we need a shutdown CB.
Best way to break up pass plays is to pressure the QB IMO. The kid has a tremendous first step and explosion off the line. I know his 40 isn't great but man his 10 yard time has to be phenomenal. I don't think he was a reach at all and man there have been plenty in this round. They'll get a corner but there has really been a run on DEs and he's one of the best IMO.

No doubt he is exceptional but must admit I'm still concerned that he totally had his way with us. Watching that game is painful. What else could've been done?

I still don't understand why people act like Gates got totally owned by Barnett. Maybe Gates didn't look pretty or smooth defending against DB but Gates NEVER gave up a sack in that game to Barnett. Matter of fact, Vols put Barnett on the other-side of the LOS to get him the record just because they knew Gates was never going to give it up. Also, pretty sure Gates didn't even give up a tackle for a loss to him. Yes it wasn't pretty and Gates got beat up and had a difficult time with Barnett but it was not as bad as the announcer nor people like to claim.

It really reminded me of the movie raging bull. It looked like a blood bath but Gates was saying at the end "ray you never got me down ray"

Made me believe a ton in Nick Gates drive and heart after that game. Not that I ever questioned it but it made me believe his is above and beyond.

And had the Vols not taken the "bush league way out" we'd be talking about how Nick Gates stopped DB from getting the VOLS all time sack record

Frankly, I think he owes Gates a lunch and his first charitable donation should be to the UNL athletic fund. We pretty much made him a top 15 pick.
