Eichorst appeared to be so set on finding a coach with the complete opposite disposition of Pelini, that he failed to take the time to identify a replacement who was a 180 in terms of coaching ability. Is Mike a nice guy? Sure. He treats the media with respect, doesn't get into the face of his players. But that should never trump COACHING ABILITY and PHILOSOPHY. Bo didn't fail at Nebraska because he yelled at players and had a general disdain for the media. He was fired because he was consistently outcoached week in, week out. So, while from a personality perspective, we may have hired a "skinny coach" to replace the "fat" one, in the area that matters most to the success of a football program, we replaced a "fat" coach with another "fat" coach.

This was my biggest concern when we hired Riley. But it's nothing new for Nebraska - we've been hiring "opposite guy" since Solich was fired.

I hear you! I wish we could find a combination of coaches who were former players (especially during championship yrs) to come here and coach. People like Scott Frost, Jason Peters, Mike Brown, or Damon Benning (and many more examples) who understand the culture and could instill into our players what it takes to win and win big. I don't think it would take long to turn it around big time. Look at Harbaugh - 1st yr back at Mich., and they're in top 25. Look at Florida - 1st yr coach from Colo. St and they're 5-0. Paul Chryst at Wisc. has got a good team, playing well together his 1st yr. back.

Hiring old players and expecting that to turn things around is a pipe dream.

I remember Dennis Erickson turned OSU into a winner. I don't remember Riley doing anything but upsetting USC a couple times.
