I've read here that Chance's R isn't as good as it used to be. (Been 15 years since I'd been there). True?

I would agree with that. I think their original chef left to go in his own . IMO, their beef quality went way down. Hadn't eaten there in a long time but went there recently and my tbone steak ordered medium rare was only barely 1/2 inch thick, almost well done and was tough as shoe leather. Went back for the Sunday brunch and the the roast beef must have been from the same animal.
The rest of the food was good and so was the service. Fried chicken was great and their rolls and escargot are killer good.

Would it be safe to say chances r you gone?

All I know is Cornerstone Soccer Complex is inevitably one of the coldest places my kids played at every year. In 10 plus years of my kids playing our bi-annual double headers (one spring and one fall, each) at that place, I can probably think of ONE time when it wasn't cold, rainy and windy. One day, our 11:00 a.m. game was about 60 and it seemed like we might get in a rare nice day there - but by the 3:00 game, the wind had switched to the north, it was drizzling and the temp was in the low 40s. I swear, that patch of earth is insulated from the warmth of the earth's interior and must have a permanent patch of perma frost lying beneath its surface.

Would it be safe to say chances r you gone?
Not necessarily. I just won't have beef there. As hard as that is for me to say. What's in my freezer is better. I like their other food just fine. Gives me a chance to eat what I normally wouldn't on a regular basis.

I've been there 1 time and thought it was pretty good a couple of years ago.

I completely understand, being from Beatrice Cam Jurgens is helping the Orangemen get a lot attention the past few years. We are definitely getting a beast at TE or LB, which ever he ends up at. Dudes good.

I was just in Beatrice visiting my grandma. It's always good to go home.

Little known fact...when my family moved there, there was a sign that called York The Egg Capital of the United States...no idea what that meant, how it was measured, etc.

It DOES remind me of a runaway hot air balloon!:)

Reminds me of the Worlds of Fun tower.

Seriously, repainting it would be similar to what the town of Mayberry was going to do when they found out Hollywood wanted to make a major motion picture in their town. First thing people thought of is to chop down the tree in the center of town and change the way they dress. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and they saved their town.

Well, we had our share of Otis, Barney and Thelma Lous in our fair town.
My dad, who was as kind a person as I have known, was ANGRY when the courthouse was torn and a new, 'modern' one was built.
I LOVE the City Auditorium...played all my HS and YC hoops games there.

That would be a stupid decision. Anyone can have a vanilla water tower, York's is unique, and I know it's dumb but I look forward to seeing it every time I pass that way.
I agree. It lets me know that I'm 1/2 way to lincoln or only 25 miles to Seward to see my grandkids(daughter & SIN are secondary).

The Culbertson Bears. They were a dominant school in my days, early 70's. Played them all of the time, I grew up in Lebanon/Danbury with the school being Beaver Valley. BV closed many years ago.

Yes they were. There was a very good class of seniors in 1971/72 that were amazing at sports. My dad always calls them "his seniors" when he talks about them. He was a freshman there that year and he graduated in 1975 from Culbertson, but moved around quite a bit from Indianola, to Paxton, to Madrid, etc from 7th-12th grade.

The numbers dropped too much and Culbertson joined Hitchcock County and then Stratton and Trenton voted away Culbertson's school within a few years. Now they built a small school and the numbers jumped up and they don't have enough classrooms.

My aunt and uncle live on highway 89 just west of Danbury close to hwy 83. Those are some pretty small towns along that highway!

I don't get back there much, have family I am related to and through marriage but a funeral is the main reason to return unfortunately. Back in the day, Culbertson, Trenton and then Republican Valley were the big dogs.

I probably know who your aunt and uncle are, there aren't many people along that road.

My high school track coach came from Culbertson. Godtel

From KRVN website:
YORK – A York man was taken into protective custody Monday afternoon after allegedly throwing bricks off the top of a building in downtown York. According to Police Chief Donald Klug, authorities were called to the top of the Opera House on the corner of 7th Street and Grant Ave. around 2 p.m. where a man in his early 20’s was found severely intoxicated to the point where he was nearly unconscious when officers made contact with him. Klug could not confirm that the man was tossing bricks from the roof onto the street. More information will be released when available. No charges have been filed.

Catch any of the action spartan?!

Aunt and Uncle are the Messingers (Kirk). One mile west of hwy 83.

The Godtel's were quite the athletes! They moved away in the early 90's to Arcadia, so my memory of them is not great except that I had one in my class and an older one in my brother's class before they moved away. Their dad's name was Ray I believe.

Oh, my goodness, no...I'll have to call one of my good friends there to see what he knows....:(

On my way to York right now from the Twin Cities. Going to stay there tonight and tomorrow while I visit relatives. Relatives are in Grand Island.

I know of the Messingers and where they live. Ray was my coach in HS. He was a good track coach and later when volleyball was getting started, he was very good at that. Small world.
