Isn't the 247 composite an average of all the recruiting services? It is interesting that we are 24 both in the composite and 247's own ranking despite all the other recruiting services ranking us lower

247 has a composite ranking and their own rankings.

I'm not hyping anything - i just put out the numbers .. you seem quite defensive
people are welcome to come to their own conclusions
I've stated time and again the true measure of a class comes 2-3 years after NSD ... the 2011 class turned out to be putrid .... horrible evals by Pelini and staff and horrible rankings by rivals

Thanks Alum-ni, good stats. I'm just glad that we beat Wisconsin and Iowa. Simply gives us a better chance in the future to win the West. That, to me, is the first step. Now it's time to win games. Why can't gameday be this Saturday?:(

Right and right. Their composite is an average (of sorts) but they don't do it the normal averaging way. They use a proprietary weighting method which they won't explain. It's proprietary, right?

I guess the Hawkeyes dream season didn't add up to much of a recruiting coup???

Ferentz seems to be pretty happy with the class and their fans seem to be ok with the class as well. Iowa's football program has been good at identifying and developing overlooked talent. They have (in the past) recruited TE's and converted them to OL. (Robert Gallery (2nd pick in 1st round a few years ago was a TE in a very small Iowa HS.) They have also recruited LB's in the past with big frames and have converted them to DT or DE's. Iowa also recruited a lot of players who committed very early in the process before the season had even started.

To be fair one of the recruits was a Punter so that knocked our rating down a bit. Also keep in mind in that Bo's first real class had 28 recruits with a final Rivals ranking of 28. If Riley had 28 scholarships to hand out his first real class rank would have likely been much higher. 2017 is the year to watch as we will have more scholarships I believe. Also NU needs to have a much better record in 2016 to prove to kids that NU is headed in the right direction towards being relevant again. That doesn't mean winning the Big Ten but at least getting to the Conference Championship game would be a huge boost to recruiting one would think.

I didn't read him hyping anything. Rather simply listing final rankings. What I did read was a Riley supporter being hyper sensitive to see the reality that Coach Riley's first class is actually a bit lower, albeit fairly similar to Coach Pelinis classes.
Now we just have to coach em up, but may I also suggest that the only results that really matter happen from Sept-Dec. With the performance we saw in the bowl game, there is hope going into next season.

I'm fairly happy with our class. Like you said 90% of the class was committed before the season. It tells me Ferentz got the guys he wanted. It seemed schools like MSU, Michigan, made pushes at the end to a couple recruits that ended up sticking with Iowa.

More of the three star guys are ranked high three stars than other years it seems. The biggest issue, once again, is a lack of playmaking WR. Which has been Iowas issue the past decade.

I'm looking forward to the 2017 class with a possible 5 star in Epenesa and a 4 star RB from Texas naming Iowa his current favorite.

It will be interesting to see what Riley can do with a top 25 class. He has seemed to be a good developer of talent. What holes concern Husker fans with this class?

No...Rivals only looks at your top 20 players. Our punter did not hurt us. Bo's lowest 8 guys did not help him.

Yep, exactly

Have you read my post Thoughts on Recruiting? Yep I'm a Riley Homer. jpl321 is a negative person in general when talking about Riley. He may have not came out and said it in this thread, but smart people know what he was implying

Carry on...

The staff really didn't press too hard for DTs, but the consciousness is that we probably needed one. Next year Nebraska will most likely need 2 of them, maybe a JUCO. A true pass rushing DE, a big bodied WR and another big time OT were probably the only other 'misses.'

I think many fans are pretty happy with the class. The secondary got better, the QB position got better, the OL got better and there are a lot of LB/DE hybrid players that are good looking athletes. Several of dynamic WRs, just not a big bodied one (missed on two late). Really glad we landed Farniok. If we missed him, that would have been a huge whole in the class.

The top 20 players being counted in the ranking started in 2013. Team rankings before and after that are probably tough to compare...average star might be a better route in the case of comparing across the two different formulas.

That is only rivals though right? And only for team points (not to mention has only been in effect for a couple years)... still hurts your average star number which people utilize to analyze class quality.

Here some encouragement.
Michigan state finished #20 in rivals ranking. I believe this was Dantonio's highest ranked class

Get the right players with the right coach and you can win big.

Do you think NU was the only team to sign a specialist?

Btw...I will answer my question for you...EVERY SINGLE B10 SCHOOL RANKED ABOVE YOU SIGNED AT LEAST ONE P OR K...PSU signed 2

That may have been MSU's best team ever, and they couldn't hold 'Bama's jock strap. Takes better than 20th (or 25th in our case) ranked classes IMO.

cmon, at this point if we win 2 of the next 3 BIG championships and finish ranked 6-8-3 overall I would be thrilled
after a nearly 2 decade drought I am not going to bitch if we win the conference championship, make the championship playoff but get beat badly by the #1 team in the country

I'd take it as well, in a heartbeat. I'm also greedy, I want it all. You're totally right though, we'd kill for those results right now.

For Riley and his staff to pull in a Top 25 class after all the toxicity is outstanding. It really shows just how much confidence the man has. Plus it also shows the confidence the new players place in his ability to win big here at Nebraska. As JD Spielman said there really is no place like Nebraska. WOW!!! Now let's get that conference title.

I thought looking at the top 20 players was always something Rivals did. I was under the notion that the primary change was that the bonus points got expanded from the top 100 to the top 250 and now Rivals using it's more specific rating (not just the number of stars). However, I could be full of it per usual.

Looks like I didn't read my own link close enough (2nd FAQ from bottom). You're right. Swear I thought someone said that was a change that was made, and then I thought I found it.

Sorry for the waste of time.

If the above is accurate, I am extremely concerned for our program moving forward. I am extremely excited for our 2016 recruits, but if we experience any bit of attrition, we're screwed.

Yeah, I don't post much anymore due to the polarized infighting. Plus I'm a little older, which, I believe, provides one the benefit of perspective, so I don't get all hung up on recruiting rankings, per se.

I always think of Coach Snyder at KState when it comes to recruiting. He seems to do fairly well on Saturdays with his middling recruiting rankings. Our guys just have to coach em up.

FWIW, I met coach McBride at a recent HuskersNArizona event and he told me he was encouraged with the direction of the program. Well, that's good enough for me, even though, on the surface, some of the coaching decisions seemed very questionable. (I'm aware coaches gonna stick up for one another). He said the hardest thing for a coach at this level is getting the players at the position that they are best equipped to play.

So, I'm looking forward to the upcoming season.

Oh, you can Google "Marble Machines", to see similar gifs.
