@Chaz in SoCal when you get a chance, could u break down the Alonzo Moore td pass off the slant. You don't have to do the frame for frame as he takes off running after the catch. Just like to see the play from start to catch
The reason I ask is because this is a pass play we use alot of when coaching. I mentioned it last week on one of our run plays where they fake this pass combo.
It's a bubble slant concept where you have the qb stare down the bubble to either get the LB or CB to chase it and pass on the slant to nobody. It's a quick easy pass play to get the ball into your best threats hands and let him make a play.
The way we run it is a few different ways. For ex we run it out of a 2x2 set with the bubble slant to the left and a post slant to the right. The reads go (1) stare down bubble (2) look at the slant to that side (3) the post route down the middle (4) the easy check down slant to the backside. Most the time if our qb hasn't got rid of it at (3) then either he's sacked or getting flushed.
Another way we can run it is say a trips right formation. We have a backside read route ( either a slant or a go depending on CB alignment) to the left. We have a corner route, bubble, and then the slant with the outside wr to the trips side. Again the reads go like this. Pre snap read the backside to take an easy gimme toss. After the snap (1) stare down bubble (2) slant if the LB chases (which they almost always do) (3) the corner route over the top of the CB and away from the saftey (who almost always comes down hard to either the bubble or the slant).
Anyway curious to see how Tommy played this combo and break it down so everyone could see the beauty of this pass combo.
It's a chase and replace concept. Get the LB or CB to chase and then replace with the slant.
