Fidone

if you go back and watch the Minnesota game - the reason we didnt call timeout on the goal line was because a play or 2 earlier Fidone lined up wrong and they spent most of the play clock trying to get him lined up correctly before being forced to burn a critical timeout

How disappointing has this guy been..
I came away from the game with a completely different take on him. Had one drop that hurt, but made a fantastic snag in coverage late and then got the TD in trash time. Felt like those last few drives could be a good spark and confidence boost for him as the season goes on.

The dude had back to back preseason ACL surgeries and just finished the 2nd collegiate game of his career, on a team with 8 turnovers in those 2 games, but you're disappointed in him? Good grief, people need to wake the heck up and be realistic.

He looked like a guy that hasn't played a lot of football the last few years for sure. I also remember a couple plays that game where his blocking on the back side looked a little rough and that the officials were nice not to call a hold on a couple others. Excited to see how he develops this year and next. Keep those legs healthy this year and he should be more agile next year.

is holding a penalty in college football?

I am super excited to see how the TE room develops and is utilized in the offense

One of the big questions everyone is asking as we head into the season:

Is this the year that Thomas Fidone finally surpasses me in career receptions at Nebraska?

congrats to Thomas on this milestone!
wish it would have happened in Memorial Stadium so the achievement could have been properly recognized and celebrated

It's tough to do much as a receiver or tight end when almost every 1st down play was a run play yesterday. I understand wanting to run the ball but I was super disappointed in the lack of play action on 1st down after calling run plays on the first 10 first down plays. If a moron like me can recognize you're not gonna pass on any 1st down, then I'm sure the opposing defensive coordinator did too.

Good post. The kid just finished playing his second career game. It's ridiculous how panicky so many are on this board.

His cuts look like me mowing the yard. He should not be playing football.
This made me laugh, but to be fair the guy is 6'6" 250. He's not going to be coming out of breaks like a WR fully healthy. Let alone after the back to back surgeries this soon. Lot of time left in his Husker career. If he can stay healthy, he's going to continue to improve.

I think everyone that has had surgery knows that even after you are cleared there is no substitute for time and confidence. That snag on HH's first throw might have been one of the higher level catches I've seen at NU in a while.

Plus, he's been here awhile but how many practices has he actually participated in as fully cleared? Fidone is the last thing I'm worried about.
