Let the pads get to poppin.....first practice with full pads tonight.

Pre-Practice Notes,

- DB Byerson Cockrell says he's had solid treatment and will be ready for season.

- Chongo: "It’s my last chance to win a Big Ten championship, as well as get payback on some teams that beat us my first couple years here.”

- OL positions are still very much in question.

Early Notes and Quotes,

- Resvin " AJ Bush rotating in 2nd behind Armstrong for Huskers. Great frame - looks the part-"

- Marcus Newby lining up with 1st group of LB's along with Rose-Ivey and Banderas

- BTN crew will be in Lincoln tonight for practice. Should air tomorrow on BTN.

- Resvine,"Armstrong has had some sharp moments - just hit Stanley Morgan over the middle with an absolute strike"

- Resvine, "QB play has been spotty in drills we've seen. TA w a couple of INT's & couple more that could have been. Then Fyfe came in & threw one too"

More Notes,

- Josh Banderas is having a heck of practice tonight, reports say he is all over the field.

- BTN crew, "This is not a complete overhaul offensively - a lot of stuff will look very familiar to Neb fans (spread formations, read option, etc)"

Notes and Quotes,

- Mike Riley on Armstrong: "Tommy will have some rough spots but he always appears to bounce back."

- Mike Riley: "We don't have enough WRs to get reps to practice like we want to & we have too many RBs to give some of them the reps they deserve."

- Practice notes. 35 play scrimmage lasted around 30 minutes. Defense got the best of the O for the most part. Long td passes to Morgan/Moore

- Severe, " Wilbon is really on the come from I back spot. Makes guys miss and had a nasty stiff arm during scrimmage. Rumbled down the sideline."

- Only 5 scholarship WRs were available for tonight's practice. Not able to get the reps they need . Conversely, too many RBs to give carries to.

- Severe, "One of the best moments happened when Zo Moore beat the CB off the line with a shake. Ryker didnt throw it but other Wrs celebrated.

- Stanley Morgan is a name that keeps coming up in practice no matter who's reporting.

- Severe, "Matt Snyder make a very nice catch from Darlington. Zac put it up high to beat the defender. Snyder went up and got it. Gonna be real good."

- Gaskins, "No Westerkamp, DPE, Allen at WR tonight. Meant Reilly, Moore, Turner had more chances. Some catches. More drops on zipped TA passes."

- Gaskins, "Tommy mostly solid in early 11-on-11, threw a pick. Banderas then picked him off on great read in 7-on-7. No INT in late 11-on-11."

I know it's early but hopefully all our opponents focus on the USC strategy of dropping 6 picks a game. I still have a bad feeling about our qb throwing the ball.

Notes,

- Per Gaskins there is a big drop off between Tommy and the back up Qbs and the 1st team defense to 2nd team.

Yes, as I stated yesterday, he and Sterup are in a dog fight for the RT spot and he has been seeing reps with the ones.

The hilarious thing to me right now is the thought there is this huge dropoff between the first and 2nd team, but yet you hear of all these fierce competitions. Now the QB may be the case, but it sounds like we have a lot of pretty good lineman, there are a bunch of wr's and rb's. Seems like things are really shaping up, and we have some depth.

I think there is a much bigger drop off between the 1st and 2nd team on defense. The D returns alot of experience and about 8 players have locked down starting spots. Offense seems to be much more of a crapshoot at this point.

I am surprised that it is Gates battling with Sterup for that RT spot and not Finnin, Knevel or Price.

Gates is the most talented tackle on the team.
