The reason no one takes Iowa seriously is that they do not act like they should be champions - From these mythical Big10 titles to scheduling patsies every year and then claiming their SOS is compatible
2002 - Iowa was co-champions with OSU who had the same record they did not play each other OSU was considered the better team
2004 - Iowa was 7-1 in Big10 play and Michigan was 7-1 and had beaten Iowa - but Iowa claims this as a Big10 championship - embarrassing really
2009 - Their BCS year - NU's defense would have made them cry that year
according to Iowa logic - I am claiming right now conference titles for NU for the years 2006,2009,2010 and a Big10 title in 2012 (we had already beaten WI and the second time around should not count)
Meh. I dislike Iowa and their fans. More than anything, it's because Iowa fans (of all people) pull the "sure you sell out your stadium, we have such and such to do." That's bull****. I lived in both eastern Iowa and Des Moines. There isn't anything to do there anymore than there is in Nebraska. In fact, I would argue there is actually
less to do in Iowa.
Yes, the population of Iowa is greater than the population of Nebraska. Why it ever became acceptable to see a greater population as being a better place to live as generality, I'll never know. Basically, Iowa has more Scottsbluffs, Yorks, and Norfolks - they have an Applebees and a mall, but both make you sad. Sure, Iowa is closer to Chicago, but much of western Nebraska is closer to a better city (unless you like beer-swilling obese people) - Denver. So that argument about "we have better things to do than attend Iowa football games" is negated.
But considering Nebraska's current state and Iowa's current state, I would much rather have the W-L record of Iowa. I can't knock them for enjoying this season. They should enjoy it. I can't even imagine how we would be acting if Nebraska were 11-0. Because of our history, we wouldn't have to release videos like "Talk to your kids about undefeated Iowa." Sh*t's unprecedented, which is also why it is considered an anomaly, and why the outside world can not grasp the concept.
I'll take the win over Iowa on Friday, spoiling their season, and not really worry about Ferentz's teams in the future. History has shown that Ferentz is a hack and his record shows that. But for the moment, it's probably best we just wait until Nebraska beats Iowa on Friday before this trash talk continues from the fans of a 5-6 team with a coach who has a track record even more questionable than Ferentz.
Just my take.
