Early favorites to win the 2018 college football national title

I would guess our are about 100-1 right now. QB play is going to be a different picture now and in the future so I couldn't be more excited for our coaches to run their system. Once the QBs start playing well, watch the recruits file in who want to play in the system. Better defensive recruits will then follow too. It's all part of the plan.

Could not care less about these predictions. I highly doubt we will be in contention for the title this year, but you never know. Who would have guessed Iowa was going to go undefeated in the regular season two years ago or that PSU would win the B1G this year? We have a tough schedule next year but it is also not impossible for us to have a great season. Our two toughest games will be OSU in Lincoln and PSU on the road. And who knows how good Oregon will be next year early when we play in Eugene. Everyone we play next year is beatable. And I don't mean that in the cliche sense of "on any give Saturday...". I mean that not even OSU is unbeatable as we have seen. If we get them in a night game in Lincoln and our QB is clicking.... we can win

Our season next year hinges on the development of the new QB and the improvement of our defense

Nebraska improves if three things happen:
1. Good QB play operating within the DL/MR scheme.
2. Better Oline play.
3. A legit pass rush.
Are we anywhere near the title game? Bama had grown men out there and Clemson was very athletic. I don't see a lot of players on our team that fit the former and we are no where near as athletic as Clemson. But if we can accomplish the three things above, we can win the division and perhaps make the Rose Bowl.

I'm suprised Wisconsin doesnt have better odds since they return all but 1 of their OL and DL from their two deeps.

next years games are harder, but we might be able to complete a pass.
I'm thinking 2 years till we think about a conference championship.

Look at our schedule in two years---18 is brutal

I saw on ESPN we are a 200-1 with Georgia Tech and Utah. Iowa 300-1. KState 50-1. Clemson 18-1. Florida State 7-1. Alabama 3-1.

that's does look tough, but we should have a qb in the system that can pass with experience by then.

next year is:
at Oregon
wisconson
ohio state
northwestern
at penn state
iowa

which looks to be tough with a first year qb, although that transfer qb has experience I guess, I wonder how much of a learning curve he will need?

Ya, Tanner Lee (and POB) HAVE to be the real deal and there HAS to be a huge step forward in the OL play, that's fore sure!

The thing about this schedule though, is that we never really know what we'll get until gameday. When the Oregon home and home was announced, our game this year seemed unwinnable. Things change rapidly....let's just worry about next year.

I only brought 18 because the OP said we were two years away

To me you can argue and question many things pertaining to next years success, but the biggest X factor is the Oline. It has to improve, it doesn't matter what qb or skill players on the offensive side, if your Oline is terrible, your going to lose a lot of games. We need to be much better or it will be a rough year.

but do you think a qb that can pass can help a oline? like if they blitz and the qb burns them. or that a qb that can pass helps the running and run blocking too? by making a pass threat down field. I don't know about a national championship, but I do think if we get a qb that can pass, we could compete for a conferance championship.not saying we would win, but at least be competitive.

Delaney really laid the screws to us with this schedule, especially when we have to go back to Ann Arbor when we were just there... Goes true with Penn St next fall we were already in Happy Valley the last time we played Penn St.

Stop demanding results in the 3rd year! Once Cav gets "his guys" in another 1-2 years after next year, then you'll start to see real improvement. Real coaches cannot get results out of kids they have not recruited!

It would certainly help, but in games with teams with elite talent I feel it would be of little significance. In my opinion, I feel the Oline play will crumble the entire offense, that is if there is little improvement.

I think it's vital that a qb in a passing offense scorch the incoming blitzing threat. other wise you have linemen on their heels getting hurt.
