Dylan and the new stars down in KC

What Rhule meant was don't expect to come here, and redshirt so we can get you bigger, stronger, faster and develop you, then lose you to the portal.
I didn't catch that part I guess. But if that is so, then what is the alternative exactly? Play right away? Don't play, but don't get any better? I don't get it.

i imagine Matt and every other college coach have come to the conclusion that loyalty no longer applies to college athletes. I assume he wants these kids, all of them, but especially the top ones, to come in and be ready to participate and not just think about redshirting.

I think for a team like NU, the portal could become a fatal blow in the effort to get into Top Ten status.

Let's take a couple of wild assumptions here: Say Dawson Merritt comes in and as a true freshman produces and looks to be one of the very best LB's in the country, regardless of class. How much will it cost to retain him, IF a team like OSU, GA, TX or ORE, HAS to have what he brings to the table to fill a hole that could elevate them to a national title? Are we gonna be able to rely on his loyalty or will a huge check encourage him to enter the portal?

The teams on the threshhold now have a tremendous advantage going forward. It's impossible to have very many Dylan's payout and be able to protect everyone. Whereas a team like those I mentioned that already have almost every piece in place can go as high as they need to in order to get that kid they feel they HAVE to have.

The idea of convincing a kid to redshirt when they’re expected to play only 15% of snaps or less seems outdated...unless contracts come into play. In future seasons, there’s likely to be little concern about a player appearing in just five games and burning their redshirt, unless the kid asks to sit and redshirt.
