Steven Sipple notes several reasons why the Nebraska v. Oregon game may be played at 11 am. For television purposes, there are several marquee games being played and we know the B1G did not select Nebraska as a primetime slot already. Because of the other games, playing Oregon at 11 might be the best slot to gain the most attention.

For other selfish reasons, 11 AM may work well for the Huskers as noted teams from the PAC 12 traveling from the west coast haven't always fared as well when playing what is the equivalent of a 9 am start for them (see most recently Stanford @ Northwestern).

While it's easy to see fans disappointed in an 11 AM kickoff, it does seem to be a logical time slot for the game.

This would be hugely detrimental to our recruiting efforts that weekend. Its the biggest game of the year that is being played at home and if we want to get as many recruits in to see Lincoln at its best 11am is the worst possible kickoff time.

other games that day

MSU - Notre Dame
OSU - Oklahoma
USC - Stanford
Alabama - Ole Miss

the Neb - Oregon game as far as national prestige is likely last in the pecking order of those games based largely on Nebraska's current status .... just up against too many other marque teams and matchups that day

Any chance of fox picking us up for a prime time slot, or is that not possible due to TV contracts?

I'd like to see them win the game. If this helps our chances, even a little bit, I think it's well worth any recruiting snags that may come up.

I hope they announce the game time soon, so if it is at 11, parents/recruits can plan ahead.

I think the game would hurt Oregon a lot and help Nebraska being at 11 AM. But I wouldn't be upset either if it was under the lights.

By the time UCLA woke up we were up 21-3. Then the wheels came off. Probably would have had a chance had we started the game at 8 a.m.
UCLA scored 38 points and five touchdowns in a row to end the game. That's more then the wheels coming off...

That was a confusing game. It was not a night game, so the players at the time should have excelled (because night games were terrible)

I would invite all of you to read this, but undoubtedly, someone will respond below without reading this:

STEVEN SIPPLE is a terrible journalist.

The Big Ten has ONLY released their Conference Primetime schedule and THEIR BTN NETWORK Primetime GAMES!

ABC/ESPN NON CON BIG TEN PRimetime broadcasts will be announced in the next week to 10 days. LSU and Wisconsin play in Week ONe at Lambeau Field. Are we to believe that game won't be a National ABC game?

I can't believe an Editor didn't stop Sipple's story. He must be a real idiot.

Not that mention A&M @ Auburn and Miss St. @ LSU. I would assume those would get the 2:30pm ESPN and 3:00pm CBS slot.

The biggest issue hurting the potential for Oregon @ Nebraska to be a night game is the negotiation between Fox and ESPN over the Ohio State @ Oklahoma game.

Fox would have the rights, but each week those 2 Networks can negotiate over Big 12 rights. ABC/ESPN really wants that game, for obvious reasons.

Michigan State @ Notre Dame will be an NBC game.

Bama @ Ole Miss will be a CBS game at 3 pm.

Mississippi State @ LSU will be a 6:30 ESPN2 game.

A&M @ Auburn likely does draw a 2:30 regional slot.

USC vs. Stanford will likely be a 7:00 pm National, or potentially a 9:30 National on ESPN 2. - If ABC does get the Oklahoma vs. Ohio State game, you would think FOx will then get this game.

Texas @ Cal - FSN 6 pm game

Other Games that will effect:

Colorado @ Michigan - Probably an 11 am ESPN game
UCLA @ BYU- This could be a late, late game or ESPN mid afternoon
Florida State @ Louisville- Always seems to be night game, but the ACC contract requires at least one day game on ABC...

Temple @ Penn State will be an 11 am ESPN 2 game... it always is.

Oregon @ Nebraska will either be a 2:30 or a night game. Sipple is wrong.

FOX cannot air the Oregon at Nebraska game since this game is being played in Lincoln and is part of the Big Ten television contract with ABC/ESPN/BTN. ABC/ESPN have announced their primetime games and BTN just did theirs earlier this week so it will not be a night game. The only time slots available for this game are 11:00 AM CT or 2:30 PM CT.

I hope the fact that it is a Pac 12 team, the network bosses decide to make it 2:30 to help get more eyeballs watching on the left coast.

Michigan State at Notre Dame (9/17) is a night game on NBC, will kick off at 6:30 CT.

Sean Callahan seems to think Oregon/Nebraska will be either 11:00 AM CT or 2:30 PM CT, which as I stated above would be correct as there does not appear to be any night slots open now on that date in the Big Ten contract.

This is simply NOT TRUE... ABC/ESPN and even CBS HAVE NOT announced their PRIMETIME GAMES FOR THE FIRST 3 weeks of the season.
ESPN announced the Big TEn conference PRIMETIME games and BTN announced which Tier 3 Big Ten games they will show at night.

I can't believe how this keeps getting misreported.

I still would bet money it's a 2:30 Kick on ABC.

ABC will pick tOSU at Oklahoma for 7:00 Pm.

Sticking what I said a week or 2 ago about the Oregon start time.

This is true and a fact -

Neither FOX nor CBS can televise the Oregon at Nebraska game period end of statement. The Big Ten television contract is with ABC/ESPN and BTN only, therefore limiting the television options to what I basically outlined above. I can say with almost 99% certainty that our game vs. Oregon will not be played at night unless we are in about the 20th overtime (if the game kicks off at 2:30) or the 50th overtime (if the game kicks off at 11:00 AM).

It is my belief that this game will likely end up at 2:30 PM, however 11:00 AM CT cannot be ruled out. ABC will not allow the Ohio State/Oklahoma game to get away from the 7:00 PM CT time slot, opening up the Stanford/USC game for ESPN also in the same time slot.

How about this scenario:

ND/MSU on NBC
Bama/Miss on CBS
USC/Stan on Fox
OSU/OU On ABC Primetime
Neb/Ore on ESPN or ESPN2 primetime?

Possible? (And man, we must be bored lol)

No shit about CBS or Fox... They don't have Big Ten rights. My point was ESPN and Fox negotiating the OU game. It will either be on Fox at 6:30 CT or ABC at 7 PM. ESPN 2 will have an SEC game, likely LSU. If Fox loses OSU @ OU, then They likely grab USC vs Stanford. Florida State at Louisville most likely gets the ESPN 7 PM slot, unless ESPN decides they want them at 3:30 EST.

UCLA @ BYU is a wildcard... If ESPN2 decides to make that game a 9:30 kickoff, it likely makes Nebraska a shoe in for Oregon at 2:30.. But if BYU is slotted for 2:30, then it' sdoubtful ABC has Oregon and UCLA on at the same time.

But my initial dispute to this whole argument is how Sipple and others are wrong about what has been announced. ESPN announced its Big Ten League Primetime games. BTN announced its Primetime games. But the Network's have not released their Primetime non con schedules for the first few weeks of the season, including Big Ten rights.

Don't worry too much. The guys here that pretend to know alot about TV packages and times are right about 10% of the time. Nothing new by any means.

Well the fine folks at the SEC have announced their TV schedule for September 17th and these two games directly affect the start time of the NU/Oregon game - Mississippi at LSU and Texas A&M at Auburn are slotted for a 7:00 PM CT kickoff. One game will be on ESPN and the other on ESPN2. ABC has USC/Stanford in that slot as well and FOX has Ohio State at Oklahoma. The only two slots left folks are 11:00 AM or 2:30 PM as I mentioned and was called out on. Looks like I might just be right with my statement that the NU/Oregon game will not be played at night, imagine that?

That's what happens when you insist on playing football in the American South during the summer and early fall — they have to play at night or inside — it would be too damned hot otherwise. Thus, sites with better September/early October weather (such as Nebraska) get to play in near-perfect football conditions during the day, but suffer the potential recruiting consequences.

I just hope the NCAA baseball super-regionals can somehow squeeze in three games each despite the horrendous heat, humidity and floods they'll likely see in the sites they've chosen for the super-regionals. Eventually these Southern teams will make it to more reasonable weather for the CWS.

Iowa State is playing at TCU at 11 am that week. TV doesn't care one bit about heat or humidity.

Good work. You successfully guessed that it might be 2 of 3 times, yet again. Not that simple understanding of network rights has ever stopped you from being wrong before

Ummm....I never said the game would be at 7:00 PM so therefore I would say I was correct when I said it would be one or the other and not 7:00 PM.

Good call.....Still think ABC at 2:30.Winking

Maybe not. It might not be wise having recruits watch the Ducks beat the Huskers. I hope it doesn't happen, but when was the last time the Huskers won a real big game? The Ducks are starting a former QB from Montana State. I think it is more psychological than actual ability. The Ducks are not as good without Kelly. anyway I thought the kick-off was going to be later. I am going keep posting this until next year. Those who travel to Eugene should be careful. Duck fans can be very obnoxious and Autzen Stadium is small, tight and their fans are on top of the opposing players' bench.

Michigan State.

You are right. How quickly I forgot about the one.

I don't look at the bowl game against UCLA as a win over a great team. It was a good win, but not a great win. UCLA reminded me of our team that blew out the Huskies in Seattle and then lost to them later that season in the Holiday Bowl. A team that was in turmoil. UCLA had lost a few players including their best player, Myles Jack. I think there was also contention between Mora and his staff. (I think Mora might be leveling off). By the way the high school powerhouse that produced Myles Jack, Bellevue High, WA. (a Seattle suburb) was just placed on a 5 year ban from playing in the playoffs. Bellevue has won 11 state titles since 2001. In Washington kids going to private schools can participate in sports and activities at the local public schools if their private school does not have those sports or activities. The high school governing board claimed Bellevue High coaches were steering good players from outside the school district to attend a nearby private high school so they could play for them. Budda Baker, a pretty good DB playing for the Huskies also played for Bellevue
