Does Riley Get A Mulligan

Yes but he won't survive a second season like this. Boosters won't have the patience.

Probably. Nebraska could have won three more games just as well as they've lost them. It's not like they have been beaten by 3-4 td's in these losses. But the troubling thing is this team, more so the coaches, can't figure how to win these close ones yet. This team is fairly solid against the run, but continues to be horrible against the pass.

Last two games have been pretty much awful on offense and yet they manage to hang around until the very end. Against the teams they've played so far, it's obvious that their talent is not that far off, nor their desire to play hard.

I'm not sure if the staff can correct anything the rest of the way, maybe it plays out with just a few more wins and a 4-8 type season. 2 out of the next 6 could be ugly one sided losses, but the other 4 should be like what the first 6 were. Hold on to your umbrella!

If he loses out he won't be here. If he is you will start seeing many empty seats come next fall

Unless Riley loses this team, we'll win 2 or 3 more, and he'll back-SE just affirmed his hire-he has to give Riley a chance, and hope it works out.

BYU was ranked, Miami is a bit of a mess under Golden but gave FSU a heck of game in FSU's building, Illinois is mediocre (as is the entire B1G west), Wisky outplayed us - we were lucky to be in the game after pretty much doing NOTHING on offense for 3 quarters (a familiar theme under Langsdork) The D seems to be improving but is still a weak D vs the pass and Banker is too ****ing stupid to blitz to protect weak ass coverage.

The teams played (and lost to) so far range from slightly above average to mediocre, on the whole.

Yes it is fortunate that Michigan and Ohio State are not in the schedule this year. Next year's schedule is very weak as well, other than the trip to Ohio State. Anything less than 8-4 next year will be a failure.

I agree, but who do we get??? I seriously don't think we have the deep pockets everyone thinks we do. Also another rebuild. We are gonna be shitty for at least 5 more years if Riley doesn't turn it around.

I've tried telling some people here that unless Warren Buffet makes a major donation, Riley ain't going anywhere.

People.seem to think UNL.has an unlimited amount of cash. WRONG. If UNL did, Eichorst wouldn't have let Bo coach the 2014 season.

It sure seems like some people are rooting for Nebraska to lose out.

Wins/losses don't matter this season any more. Riley's goal is to stay competitive and have an upward trajectory by the end of the year. The record is embarrassing, and we're lucky that we don't have any offensive powerhouses on the schedule. Many Husker teams of the last 15 years, including some of Cally's stinkers would be 4-1 right now. It is what it is.

I think he does get one for the first year only. With the lack of depth and specifically the injuries, I'm surprised we haven't been blown out in games.

Get them healed up for next year and unless the hounds regarding all those redshirts.

The fun thing to watch for next spring is going to see how POB develops and pushes TA. For someone to come in early, I can't imagine he has any intention to redshirt.

Coach Riley has no chance to survive a 0-8 conference record. That would be a historical season that is so bad it would be regarded as one of the worst in school history going all the way back to the 1800's. And no we are not winning three conference games this year. We already lost to IL and they may not win another conference game.

A 7-6 record is a mulligan. A 4-8 record is teeing off, completely missing the ball, having the driver slip out of your hands, crashing through an awning and nearly killing a woman with your damn club. Even Danny Noonan can't save you from that disaster.

I am curious as to how many great coaches finished with a worse record in their first year than the program finished with the previous year. It can't be many.
Probably need to consider the fact this team won 9 last year. Hard to compare it to other coaches coming in to teams with poor records.

Exactly I don't know of any other schools firing a 9 win Head Coach and we have done it twice in the last 11-12 years.

not sure about the empty seat thing because even though we are losing, the games are dramatic and entertaining. I think people want to be around when a few of these start going our way.

Every game could come down to the last minute, and we just might lose every single one. The biggest reasons for this is a D-line that is exhausted at the last bell (injuries aren't helping), a secondary that can't make a play when it counts and lastly an offense that stops playing hard once they get a point ahead. That is a disastrous recipe. They have a cliffhanger mentality and I don't see it changing this year.

We will not play any great teams this year (just mediocre, Michigan state will be lucky to be ranked at the end of conference play) and yet we might potentially lose the remainder of our games in the final minute because of those issues... all of which are between the ears. All we can do is hope they get out of their own way to be bowl eligible
