In a world full of stupid media this one ranks up there at the top. First, he mentions we like the increased revenue, even though we don't start receiving that until next year. This idiot was obviously out of things to talk about. I live in Lincoln and haven't heard anyone even bring up that subject. 0% chance of that ever happening. The Big XII implodes and the Big Ten thrives. Gee, which conference would we rather be in????

Let's get this straight. There is ZERO chance of this happening. This is nothing more than some idiot making up crap to get attention. There is nothing to it at all. Zero, zilch, nada. Period. We're supposed to believe that some random sports guy who has no connection whatsoever with Nebraska is going to have some inside knowledge that our own insiders don't know? Come on. This is nothing but a complete and total fabrication with not a shred of truth behind it.

I'm hoping it's BS but some believe article has merit. I'm hoping this is one of those articles based on fiction rather than fact.

If the Huskers were to go back to that crap hole I'd find a new team to cheer for! I think the writer of the article is reaching quite a bit. Why would Nebraska go back if OU were leaving.

Something tells me you have a vested interest in spreading this rumor. Nobody who matters believes this article has merit, and you know it. Why else would somebody register on here just to post this?

Dude - I've been a member of the The Wolverine on Rivals for like 15 to 16 years. I don't troll and I rarely post. I was thrilled when Penn State and Nebraska joined - (different time frames) obviously Penn State did not receive the warm welcome that Nebraska did (that's on B1G) and ever since then Penn State fans have been complaining about their membership. I have no agenda. I'm simply trying to debunk this. As far as I'm concerned feel free to have your Mods delete this thread. I just wanted to get this board's take on this article. I now know this board thinks it's BS.

Where is OU going?

TrueHuskerfan - no ill will - let me know if you ever need tickets to Nebraska at UM - I might be able to help. Best of luck this year.

It's not just this board-everyone with half a brain knows it's BS. Seriously come on-you believe stuff that's that thinly-sourced? Again-some random sports guy that is not in Nebraska and has no connection with Nebraska whatsoever is going to have some inside scoop? Our media here who is around this program and talks to people in the know all the time is not going to know this? Come on. Please tell me you aren't that gullible. Nobody who matters thinks this article has merit and you know it.

I give up - I confess to having half a brain and being gullible. Forget the fact that some of your own board over the years have posted about various issues caused by B1G membership. I won't post complaints or issues mentioned by your own since that will result in the dreaded troll label. Apologies for post - as I said delete thread.

OK - fair enough. Here is my answer. In the waning days of our B12 tenure, NU football was no longer a fun distraction because a pall hung over our program due to worrying about other schools going elsewhere and us being left with no options and no money. That would mean slippage into permanent irrelevancy. While we have some fans I'm sure who think anything less than a national championship every year is horrible, most of us are happy as long as our team is relevant and in the conversation. We are hopefully building back to that after a decade or more hiatus. The thought of never being relevant again was depressing, and many of us thought when (not if) the B12 disbands or is no longer P5, that would happen. Our invitation to the B1G took care of that anxiety. Going to great stadiums, having storied opponents and all the non-sports benefits are gravy. The ONLY bad thing is distance required to travel to away games, but virtually NO ONE I have talked to would even think about going back to the B12 dumpster fire because of that.

I grew up on B8 B12...I'm always going to like that alignment more.

But B12 is on the way out and B1G is here to stay. Adapt or die.

I think that was the case the first couple years after we joined the B10 but I can honestly say that the vast majority( I would say 85%-90%) are glad we made the move.

Not only is the Big Ten a more prestigious athletic conference, but it is also superior academically. No way Nebraska wants to go back to the dumpster fire that is the Big XII.

No way the Huskers are leaving the B1G for the Big12. Makes no sense. We have stability with the B1G plus the conference money is close to double. The Big 12 is not a stable conference and the B1G is as stable as they get. A school like Nebraska that has a limited tax payer population to draw from doesn't turn their backs on an extra $15,000,000-$20,000,000/yr so we can join a league that is bullied around by Texas.

Plus the CIC is a huge academic advantage. Penn St wasn't even in the Top 100 Universities in the country before they joined the B1G and the last couple years I have seen them ranked anywhere from #13 to #50. Thats a big jump. The CIC is a unique academic tool and will help Nebraska improve their academic standings plus what they can offer students. Plus the Academic Grant money we get is ridiculous compared to what we would get in the Big12.

The way it currently stands the B1G might not be as good of a geographic fit as the Big 12 because we are on the far west end 250+ miles from the nearest other B1G school but then again almost half of the Big12 is in Texas and that isn't exactly close either. Plus West Virginia is basically as far as any of the B1G schools. GBR, and I don't miss the Big 12 and it's $hitty politics plus lack of solid leadership.

They don't need to squash these rumors. It's completely absurd. There is zero substance to the article. Maybe wishful thinking by some in the Big 12. Nebraska is acclimated to the Big 10 and I actually think we're a good fit. We're trending up in football and own volleyball. To the larger point, the Big 10 is a strong and stable conference and offers much, much more on the academic front. Not. Going. Anywhere.

I'd like to be independent, and have the polls over rate us all the time and have huge special deals with the tv stations and have a farm system of recruiting kids since they are in 7th grade.

but the BIG is the second best choice.

I've heard Jim Irsay has seen the light and by the end of this season is going to fire both his coach Pagano and GM Grigson and hire his old qb #4 as coach and gm. Instead of coming here to spread BS rumors, you might keep an eye on your own house. How does starting over again without Harbaugh sound? Not that you will ever beat OSU with or without him.

This has to be from The Onion, right?

It's all bunk. The Big 12 must be worse off then anyone can imagine for this obvious troll attempt to be put out there. Oklahoma must be really close to pulling the trigger for them to be called out like that??? And Kansas must be sitting pretty instead of Texas for this to get published. Anyway you slice it Texas and the Big 12 must be really close to imploding. I'll be the first to welcome Oklahoma and Kansas to the B1G West Division.

It's possible that OU is in the B10 by 2020...not anywhere near 50%+ at this point but the possibility is not just speculation

Let's compare the advantages between the two and see who wins out...

B1G
1.) More Money
2.) Academically Stronger
3.) Athletic Conference Stronger

Big 12
???????

Conclusion: This article is complete nonsense!

I hated the move to the B1G. I realize the Big 12 wasn't the Big 8, but it was a lot closer than the B1G. I think we let our special hatred for Texas (and our 1-8 record) cloud our judgement and if we had sat tight and let Beebe get disposed of, as did happen eventually, we'd have been a lot happier with the Big 12 than we were at the time we bailed. Then, when we did make the move and a couple of B1G schools decided to stab us in the back with a long sharp AAU knife I hated it even more. Our negotiating prowess in terms of delayed money and or full inclusion, whatever you wish to call it, ranks right up there with some of our worst trade deals our politicians ever struck and makes me think we got hosed on that part.....but even I don't think going back is a good idea or remotely realistic. Unless you're winning at a high level, bouncing back and forth between conferences makes you look like a total putz and we'd forever be the laughing stock of CFB if we bailed on the B1G and went back, and most of the Big 12 would never, ever, completely embrace our return since we broke up with them and pretty much gave 'em the middle finger on the way out as a fan base. Lastly, while I don't think the Big 12 is in near the trouble most Husker fans do, if I had to bet my life on which one will be around in 10 years if only one was going to survive, I'm going with the B1G. Admit it, lots of Husker fans want the Big 12 to implode, bigtime, we want to say "See, told you"!!! We want to be right. No way we're going somewhere that so many of us want to see implode. As much as I did not like the move, I'd hate a move back to the Big 12 even more than the move when we left.

It's all about stability. And that story was as much about belittling Oklahoma as it was about saying Nebraska wanted back in. Which is a classic Texas move. This is gonna get really good!

Fans prefer shorter road trips! I wonder if OSU, MSU, Indiana, Purdue and all the other teams would be willing to relocate their campuses...just during the season.
