Seems we are talking about all these players on offense and how great the recruiting is going. It was pretty obvious that our defense was sub par last year. So do we have anyone who red shirted or coming in that might be a difference making type player? or is it going to be another year of trying to make the defense serviceable while adjusting to the new defensive scheme and hope to get more talent from the next recruiting class?

Avery Roberts. Think he will be a Lavonte David type playmaker. Some RS names I've heard, Colin Miller and Pernell Jefferson. Davis twins will only get better. And a ton of talent in the secondary.

I think moving to the 3-4 fits our personnel better. A lot of players should have an opportunity to showcase their talents. Would like to see Lamar Jackson take a big leap this season and possibly make the move to FS.

If the question is freshman only (true or RS) and being a difference maker, maybe Collin Miller from an outsider's perspective.

It won't be as dramatic as people think. The hiring of Diaco was based more on Personnel than Philosophy.

Nebraska has a shit ton of 3-4 LBs and 3-4 DE players on their roster. And the secondary will have more experience and talented depth than any other spot on the roster.

What are your guesses for a 2 or 3 deep for the front 7 next year?

The question to me revolved around freshman and difference makers. I think the LB's will have a lot of learning on their plate in the new scheme. Depending on how DIaco uses the DB's for run support, our DB play could be really good (but likely not freshman). Our DT's have a dead year for RS's, and a true freshman difference maker seems unlikely.

So how do some of the young guys get used in the new scheme? Miller, Alexander, Roberts, etc.

Hope to see Lamar Jackson get more clock, I'd even like to see him take snaps on offense. He's too good of an athlete to not be on the field

Just from listening and learning from those with more experience and such:
- This is not going to have a big effect on the db's, as far as going to the new scheme. Except more passing situations for O's and the DB's can ball hawk more.
- Lost in the new DC discussion; this new DB coach isn't just a great recruiter, he appears to statistically be a great coach. Wowsa
- The no crease D philosophy is going to really hurt offenses and their ability to make first downs and big plays. DC 's players have been fantastic in the Red Zone. So most categories will see us phenomenally better.
- DC has a knack for getting the players to their best position and coaching them up. Also a players coach who challenges them in a positive way and calls them on any b s.
- There is so much talent; will be a few big surprises; should see more
" playmakers " appear.

I am curious about the back four players going forwards if we don't land any DBs this class.

We will be losing some very experienced DBs after 2017.

Kieron Williams, Boaz Joseph, Chris Jones, and Josh Kalu will graduate.

2018 Will leave us with:
Safety:
SR - Reed, A. Williams
JR - Anderson, Domann
SO - Butler
FR - None

Cornerback:
SRs - None
JRs - Lee, Jackson
SOs - Bootle, Dismuke
FR - None

If we do not get any commits for DB this week, we could be going into 2018 a little shorthanded. That doesn't mean we won't get a couple 2018 commits that could start from day one, but where is the depth in case of injuries? Any walk-ons that might step up to provide depth? What if one or two of these guys doesn't pan out?

2018 Depth Chart (By class rank)
CB - Lee, Bootle, ???
S - Reed, Anderson, Butler
S - Williams, Domann, ???
CB - Jackson, Dismuke, ???

I am hoping we land at least 2 DBs Wednesday.

Not a new face, but I think Newby has a big year.

I don't like the DBs nearly as much as most on here it looks like, especially the safeties. Maybe two new DB coaches will get more out of them though.

Using their arms to tackle will be a nice start.

Doubt Boaz is on the team next season.

It's not a coincidence that the last two guys to coach safeties at NU are both no longer employed by NU. Our safety play was brutal at times this past year and Banker was "helping" with safeties.
