Anyone care to lay down chances?

According to Schaefer's update last week, NU going after Fant pretty good as a TE this time and Fant seems receptive.

Before he gave a verbal to Iowa he said he was going to take all of his visits so this is not news to anybody who has been following this. TE is his position so if you are not a TE school you are not going to get his final nod. Where this kid ends up is a crap shoot.

I posted on this board to Husker fans that when he signs on signing day, then I'll believe he is coming to Iowa. Recruiting as a whole is a crap shoot anymore, as much as I hate to say it the word "commit" doesn't mean a lot to many of these kids.

Well I remember he made a rather open ended committment, but last I had heard, it seemed NU wasn't going to be a real player for him.

The switch in our position on his playing TE it seems to have perked his ears up.

He didn't really sound like he was sold on Iowa. Not sure what kind of chances we have...I think he's interested in a few different schools.

I don't think Iowa is going to sweat if they lose the kid as they have several TE in the pipeline but they have very few rides left and more then I kid is waiting on Iowa to offer them so it may boil down to Fant getting the choice to be on board soon or bye bye For now they are just letting it ride. More then one Iowa fan wants them to drop the kid and move on.

Yeah, Iowa always has them lining up at the door, on par with Bama

I hear the only way you get an offer from Iowa is if you get a golden ticket with your chocolate bar.

That's no joke. Everyone down here in GA is putting their hopes in Jacob Eason. They think that kid is going to show up and Tommie Frazier that program. Sports radio has been melting down due to his tweeting with Florida's OC. haha

Yep, if Richt is fired, I wouldn't be surprised if he flips to the good guys.

I was mad as hell when I heard Fant was looking around after he committed to Iowa and always believe that a commitment is that, a commitment! It would seem that if he wanted to play in the NFL that Iowa would be the way to go but maybe Nebraska is his dream school and playing TE for the Huskers is a bigger draw for him??? I would not blame him for that... I would still be mad but would not blame him for wanting to play for his home state Huskers! Good luck to him which ever he choses as long as it is not Notre Dame! Sick

When he committed he said he was going to visit other schools so not sure why Iowa fans are fussing over this. I hope he comes to Iowa as I think he has a chance to be good, but like others said, we usually don't have much of a problem developing the TE position and we have some good talent coming in other than Fant already. Think his best position might end up being DE anyway.

Nebraska just offered a TE from Cedar Rapids, IA that's currently committed to North Dakota State. Maybe they're not so confident in getting Fant afterall.

That is the kid that is waiting on Iowa to pull the trigger a lot on the hawk board would like to see that .This could be a gambit to force Iowa to speed up the process and give big red a better shot at Fant. Who knows

Someone with a better memory help me out here. Doesn't Iowa have a policy of not allowing their verbal commits to visit other schools? I thought I remember reading that somewhere. I'm sure they make exceptions from time to time, but I do wonder how they view a commit taking other visits after explicitly being told not to. Would that cause them to soften on Fant at all?

This seems to be selectively enforced, although it doesn't seem to have been a real huge issue over the years for the most part.

Fant was/is one of the better players in their class, and Iowa usually doesn't recruit like Bama, so I think some recruits have treated the situation more like "calling Iowa's bluff".

Kirk has pulled offers in the past usually specific schools like Wis for example. Fant seems to be an up front guy and if he decided to go elsewhere he won't wait til the last minute.

Kirk gave up on the whole "not letting kids visit other schools after they commit" thing several years ago. He has publicly stated this as a necessary evil in the modern recruiting landscape.

Hell, Drew Ott visited Lincoln while committed to Iowa, and he didn't even have an offer.

You're clueless.

I found this online. Not sure if it's legit, but I remembered seeing it somewhere previously. First bullet point says you must not visit another institution. This is from 2015. Maybe it's just in there as lip service, and like you say, he actually gave up on enforcing it.

Zero percent chance unless Fant bails.

Iowa doesn't have the room (one or two spots left and still need an OT) and already have 2 TEs committed. We're not taking 3 TEs in one class.

That is assuming they project them at TE down the road. I could see them pressuring one or two of them to switch positions.
