It looks like Nebraska Illinois is the kickoff game of the whole CFB season at noon that day. Some other lesser games don’t have times scheduled.
I like it. Hopefully a convincing 10 point win that day will give a good boost to the team and fans with a national audience watching.
Bret Bilema is 2-0 in his coaching debuts. At Wisconsin in 2006 they defeated a Bowling Green 35-14 and his team went on to go 11-1. However at Arkansas he went 3-9 beating Louisiana Lafayette 34-14 in his first game.
His first Wisconsin team had Paul Chryst and Mike Hankwitz as coordinators but very little star power other than Tackle Joe Thomas. At Arkansas the coordinators were Jim Chaney and Chris Ash. That 2013 team had Jonathan Williams, Alex Collins and Brandon Allen.
In Bilemas first conference game for Wisconsin they lost to No. 6 Michigan 27-13.
The first conference game for Arkansas Bilema lost to number 10 Texas AM 45-33.
Bilema hired Missouri’s D coordinator at Illinois. In his first year as D coordinator in 2016 Missouri gave up over 30 points 6 times and lost their first game to West Virginia 11-26. They also gave up 63 to Tennessee and lost to Middle Tennessee 45-51.
In Frosts opening games the Huskers haven’t looked overly impressive. They lost to Colorado 28-33, beat South Alabama 35-21, and lost to Ohio State 52-17.
It will be fun to kick off the season. Here’s hoping they put up 35+ in a conference win. GBR.
