Had the day off so I watched the UConn vs USF games (Diaco vs Taggart) from the last 2 seasons. Would recommend for those wanting to be more educated on Diaco vs a spread offense. I will link the videos below but some takeaways:
-Yes the defensive alignment is similar to what we saw on Saturday. Much better execution though and you can see what they are trying to accomplish and what each position's role is.
-Guys were in position to make plays and generally there was good pursuit. Solid tackling for the most part. Guys flat out played faster than we did Saturday, shows it will come with time.
-6 takeaways between the 2 games
-Quentin Flowers was a big difference in both games. Read option running, scrambling for 1st downs, general attention on him opened some things in the pass game. Fortunately we are not playing him this week and Oregon's QB Herbert is not a runner (4 carries for 12 yards in their 1st game).
-Imagining some of our guys making the same plays against Oregon is difficult, especially for a guy like Newby. A personnel reassignment may be in order in my opinion.
-Overall not perfect, but definitely some good defense coordinated by Diaco in both games.
2015 (much shorter if you don't have as much time)
2016 (get past the long Flowers run, there is good stuff I swear)
