Detroit Lions fan here: Tell me about Ameer Abdullah

IMO he had first round athleticism, but not first round size. If you look at his combine numbers, he ranked top for RBs in alot of categories. If you look purely at combine numbers (forgetting size) you might think he could be arguably the best back in the draft.

I'm not sure if he'll be able to be an every down back, although I wouldn't be surprised if he can be because I think he's more durable than your average "small" back. Even if he doesn't become an every down back, his return abilities IMO will give him a spot where he can shine for any number of teams.

I think he should fit nicely into the roll Reggie Bush had. Ameer has really good vision and lightning fast cutting ability. His blocking is suspect. He could easily handle 15 carries a game and catches passes out of the backfield very well. He is a great team guy that will be no distraction.

As a life long Husker and Lions fan, I'm biased. I do think that AA will be a nice compliment to Bell. Their styles are very different and AA lines up along the Bush role.

AA is a good pass catcher, so I would expect a lot of screens (something that the old Nebraska OC didn't have in his playbook or just didn't know that screen were legal). And a lot of motion out of the back field. I think it is a good scheme fit for both parties.

Overrated. He won't fit in to your system at all....petition to have him traded immediately. ;)

Great character and work ethic. Runs hard and has the ability to make people miss. Very productive in running receiving and returns. Has great vision and good hands. You will have no attitude problems with him on or off the field.

The negatives are that he is just a little small for an every down back in the NFL. Also he does not have that "Top End" speed. His blocking is suspect and he has had some ball security issues, especially early in his career.

Overall you got yourself a great kid who will be a solid player and really help your team. He will bring his lunch pale every day and work his ass off. He is a little limited with his size and not having true breakaway speed like some of the other smaller backs. As long as he holds onto the ball you will be very happy with him.
