No one is freaking out except you.

Recruiting analyst was on 1620 a few weeks back and stated he would not be surprised if Nebraska doesn’t a sign a 4 star in this class.

Not sure if true…but the writing is already on the wall and the shine is off. We are continuing to reach on the recruiting trail(probably because they have to) and that’s a scary thought considering this staff has already proven how lackluster they are on Saturdays. They need all the talent they can’t get.

No excuse will be good enough for you. Not even gonna try.
I'm going with: Small class and IF we would happen to knock off OU and start 6-0, I'm going to be really pissed if this class is filled up. Even without a win, a good showing against OU and wins over teams we could and should beat, we might be able to land some kids who are waiting to see what product we put on the field this fall. There is absolutely no reason to hurry up and fill up with commits from kids who might not cut it in the B1G. I'm going with patience.

It is possible that things turn around this year. We won't know until they play the games, but it is possible and odds improve now that there is good talent at every position.

I really do hope they are working their asses off on getting that offensive unit to run smoothly this summer... it will make all the difference in how things turn out.

Mike Schafer is terrible at his job. Lazy, doesn't put in the work, and just goes off of what other people write at the other sites and doesn't do any digging to see where Nebraska stands with recruits. It's why he has no clue until "surprise" commits happen.

I dont care if we have the worst class in all of D-I as long as they win
Roy Helu was a 5.5 3 star on this site. People lost their minds when Billy C recruited him. This year is a tough year to evaluate kids because of the travel restrictions. Hell some very talented kids didn't even get to play football last fall. I would be very disappointed if we were hell bent on filling out this class before we get to see some kids play this fall. There are going to be some great prospects pop up as they play their seasons this fall. I am NOT worried about this class. The number ONE thing we needed to secure was a QB and it appears we may have landed a good one.

To be fair, COVID has made it very difficult IMO for recruiting analysts to do their job too. I enjoy listening to Schafer as much or more than any other guy when he does radio shows.

Was thinking the same thing. Bitch and moan now while it’s fashionable, then nowhere to be seen when the rankings actually matter.
Where are you going to be when the results on the field are unchanged as well? It is and should be a concern. In the past we have closed out the class very late. Very few of the kids that we brought in late had long-standing relationships with the coaching staff. If you don’t think that has something to do with our attrition problem and I am not going to convince you. What recruiting momentum Scott Frost had is pretty much a used up. If we don’t win this year it’s going to be uglier.

They are bringing in a new AD, so the wheels are already in motion if things don't improve.

Where our recruiting class finished over the past few years is really meaningless . With the attrition so high from each class none of these classes where really a very good when the dust settled

But in this case…regarding Neb…he’s right. Can you think of a 4 star that is a slam dunk to Neb. Do you read Bryan’s offensive and defensive boards? It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Neb doesn’t sign a 4 star this cycle.

Bryan’s boards are a huge dose of the reality some refuse to see or accept. Personally, I was stunned at our options.

We need to win early and often this fall. If we do, we'll reap the benefit. A very improbable upset of OU would be huge on the recruiting front. Frankly with all of the holdovers because of COVID I'm not nearly as worried about recruiting this summer as I am winning this fall. IMO, other than QB our roster seems to be in pretty good shape for now. Frost needs to win some games badly.

Agreed. A red flag is when Rutgers out recruits us something is wrong.

With Schiano's NFL ties and past success at Rutgers, their recruiting success which no doubt promises early playing time doesn't surpise me. With several losing seasons in a row and a vocal few fans suggesting the Frost needs to go, nobody should be surprised that NU is easier to recruit against this year. I think we'll be fine in the long run. We really need to get to at least 7 wins this year.

So the consensus seems to be we are pretty well set for players at most every position. As an exercise, list the positions we can't be better at? Isn't the job of the coach to recruit better talent than they currently have? I just find it interesting that we have miraculously reached a point in recruiting where we have hit the ceiling and only a few more wins will cure that malady.

7 won’t be easy. Doable but not easy.

The point is that for the right here and now, this summer isn't going to affect our performance on the field this fall. IF we win, recruiting will pick up. IF we lose, any kid committed right now could very well walk anyway. So why worry about it right now? I guarantee you that Frost and his staff are busting their balls to find the best kids they can. Hell even if a kid signs, with the new rules there's little to keep him from walking anyway. Just win. Winning would fix ALOT of things. Sure every spot could potentially be recruited over, but not likely after the consecutive losing seasons Nebraska has had starting with Riley's last year. We need to win at least 6 and maybe 7 to keep our head above water. Win 8 or more and we'll take a big step forward IMO.

Seven is possible but there needs to be marked improvement across the board. We must eliminate the recurring mental mistakes that have plagued this program under Frost. Also if we can field special teams that are a modicum of special we may get another win or two.
I remain hopeful but Frost needs to show me more on the field than he has to date.

7 would be easy for Tom with this roster IMO. Man we need this team to keep their head out of their rears this fall. I really think the talent is there to win 8. Adrian has to step up his game.
Agreed…7 would be easy with TO, McBride, Tennopir and company.

What time is your segment on 1620?

I’m gonna be right here. Where else would I be?

Just as you can pick out sunshine pumpers on this board, you can also pick out those who complain no matter what.

Now, I’m not connected to much of anything outside this board. All I can do is look at every single year where we started slow with recruiting then finished up strong. If there is information out there that others are aware of that says we should be worried, I’m not familiar with it.

And even if we suck on the field once again, I’m still not going anywhere. If you check my history, I have shown that I have the ability to say I was wrong and others were right. I’ve done it before and I can do it again.

People forget how long those guys coached together and how Charlie struggled on defense at first. Hell Tom struggled to win big games at first even with taking over the machine Bob built. Tom pretty much kept it rolling but Tom would have struggled his first couple of years taking over the roster Frost took over IMO. Yes I think he probably would have gotten bowl eligible those years but he would have had issues too. Our roster was a mess. Now Frost is at the mercy of the QBs he's recruited because it looks to me that everything else is in place.

Certainly entitled to your opinion, but the bolded statement is just silly.
Look at what’s left from each class, it’s been posted here before. Instead of a class 20-25 , you have 15-18 left. Heck, Your replacing some of them with 1-AA players .

Don’t forget that Frost lost games in his first 2 years with significant coaching errors and bad not poor clock management. Not too mention the scratch your head play calling and offensive schemes that make seem to make no sense.

Instead of designing an offense around what you have , Frost has used the square peg round hole philosophy.

I disagree with the last paragraph. When do you switch to the offense that you want to run? What do you do with the recruits that you bring in, teach them this temporary offense or do you run two different practices teaching the new recruits the offense that you want to run in the future?

Our 2022 recruiting class is dead last entering the dead period in the Big 10 and #53 in the country.

Here's one more excuse to add:

There are currently only 5 JUCO players from the Class of 2022 committed to Power 5 programs. 4 of those 5 dudes were "placed at the JUCO" by the school they're committed to currently.

On average, between 75 to 100 JUCO kids sign with Power 5 programs every season. The majority of the JUCO players haven't been evaluated. In California particularly, there are more than 1,000 JUCO football players who have never played a snap of football since November, 2019.

will Frost sign a single 5-star player in his first 10 years as a head coach?

The last thing Nebraska needs is more kids in the soph and junior eligibility classes. All that does is shrink the size of the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes. I cannot think of a position where we need a soph or junior for 2022, except maybe QB. There are already 2 classes of players that we haven't really seen what they can do in games yet, (2019 and 2020)

We need to tell the guys, that don't play, that have been here 4 years, and have that extra year, thank you for your service, but your time on the island has come to an end. We need to have classes bigger than 15-17 that we are heading toward in the 2022 cycle.

Yes exactly! I like the way you think. It's about preserving optionality at this point. Not much downside if we are just signing low ranked 3 stars now anyways.
