Am I wrong in thinking that it is a no-brainer to take a JUCO pass rushing specialist like the Van Ginkel kid from IWCC?

We lose Dzuris after this season and are left with seven scholarship DE's next year (not counting 2017 commits). Out of those remaining seven, Freedom is the only player who has shown anything on the field in terms of getting after the quarterback (pre injury). Now I understand that many of those kids are only Freshmen, RS freshmen, or Sophmores this year; but the consistent theme you keep hearing come out of camp for the last two seasons is that there has been little pass rush coming from the DE's.

Alex Davis has shown some flashes, but is mostly considered as a third down pass rusher and not an every down DE and is still learning the position. The coaches have put Sedrick King and Daishon Neal on spot this fall camp saying they want to see more out of them and from the sounds of it, neither has answered the bell. Natter will be a senior next season and has shown little to nothing while here either due to injury or ability. Miller and Stille are only true freshmen this year, so they have a lot of learning as well as gains in the weight room left to do before they see the field.

While the two kids we have verbally committed in the 2017 class (Porcher & Thomas) are excellent prospects and show a lot of promise, I personally wonder if either of them would be able to contribute as a true freshman in the fall of 2017.

So that leaves you in 2017 with pretty much the same situation as you have for the last two seasons. Why not take a chance on a JUCO DE who has shown the ability to get after the quarterback?
