Dave Doeren

I thought it took 5 years to win a decent game?

What are his thoughts about punting more than 7 yards and either to the right or left side of the field?
It's been 4 years and we can't beat Illinois with a scrub QB!! And this guy is beating Clemson?? Don't sell yourselves short Husker fans. We can do better!! Much better!!

I have been dwelling a bit on what sooo many other coaches could accomplish with our roster.

Props to Chins and Co. getting that side to ball out, but there’s a laundry list of coaches who’d get more out of our offense and special teams.

Yup. Fans need to stop acting like if Frost can't win here, nobody can. That's just a loser attitude and simply not true. There are many many good coaches out there that would kill for the opportunity to coach dear ol NU!!

The Big 10 West is garbage. Anyone can and should win it every year at NU!!
So our answer is to bring in a guy who in 8 years in a P5 conference has never won his division and is 29-38 in conference play?

He also likes to sling the ball around a bit.

That'd be a mighty tough pill to swallow for "run the option" "run the ball" and "we need a fullback" guy.

He is better than Frost. And you are acting like he would be option #1, which isn't likely.

I bet Trev's list has Matt Campbell as the #1 - already recruits the same schools Nebraska does, could bring his recruits to Nebraska, and would bring the right type of culture and schemes to Nebraska that can win.

Nice assumption but no truth that TA #1 pick is Campbell..

I think he would be considered but there’s quit a few candidates to pick from..

Matt Campbell is 2-2 right now in his 6th season at Iowa State with a Heisman Trophy/NFL caliber RB and just lost to a crap awful Baylor team while getting dominated for the 5th straight time by his in-state rival Iowa.

One would think that one of the many standards a coach we'd like to hire would be able to beat Iowa for shit's sake.

He is yet another P5 coach that hasn't won his conference given numerous seasons to make it happen.

Not only that he has no QB here already like Purdy to prove he would be successful..

Greatful antirowtheboat isn‘t hiring our next head coach..

He doesn't take special teams seriously... Their TE coach doubles as the Special Teams Coordinator and their kicker was 0-3 yesterday...

I'm not saying he's the guy. I'm just saying their are a ton of good coaches and up and coming coordinators who would love to be the Head Coach at NU.

Scott Frost or Matt Campabell if you had no other choice. Easy choice 24/7 in that case. There are several good coaches out there that Nebraska could hire.

How about the Wake Forest HC Clawson?
Year 8 at Wake and is 44-45 overall and 21-36 in conference.

4-0 this year, with solid wins over Virginia and Florida State. 54 years old, and has serious east coast ties. He'd be a seriously tough fit here. He also likes to throw the ball a shit ton, so Joe Average Husker fan would hate him.

He was 25-26 and 9-23 in conference games in his 1st 4 years at NC State. No way he'd last here under our fan base's current structure of "It is year 4!" cries.
We wouldn’t be calling for his head if he was 25-26 after 4 years. I think most would be okay for a fifth year. And don’t forget he had 3 bowl games in his first 4 years.

Seems to me you have too many choices to choose from in your posts... What’s your mindless point here that doesn’t matter?

Baylor is pretty good this year. Aranda is a guy we should look at to.

Really?

Riley was 19-19 and 12-14 in conference and got canned after year 3. Callahan was 27-22 and 15-17 in conference and was canned after year 4.

And now after 20 years of average and middling teams an outsider coach that goes 25-26 in his 1st 4 years at Nebraska wouldn't get shown the same door as those before him?

There it is. The biggest reason we have such a hard time picking the right coach.

People are so reactionary, but they never see the big picture. Campbell is a great coach and would be a great hire.

You just made the case for firing Frost in year 4.

Right, cause our hire and fire nature has proven to be so effective the last 20 years.

We keep going down this path of every 3 or 4 years hiring a new coach we'll be exactly what we have been for the last 20 years. A non-contender has been.

When a former QB that won a National Title at our beloved school gets shown the door after 4 short years, who in their right mind would think they could come here, win, and be a long time successful coach? No talented coach in their right mind would come here if they have no ties to this state unless they look at Nebraska as a mere stepping stone to something better.

Lol. Ok. Did you forget about two teams named Wisconsin and Iowa, let alone NW. I don't know where you get the logic , we have not been much of anything for 20 years.

We are talking Frost. If he doesn’t get to a bowl game he’s gotta go. As you look at your references above it’s even more obvious. He,s by far the worst. We hired the guy we thought could excel. He hasn’t, and it may be time to move on.

If and that's a big if he somehow managed a winning season and shows improvement this year then yes by all means keep him. But nobody can justify 4 straight 4 win seasons deserves keeping their job. Nobody.

And any coach worth his salt knows damn well if it takes you until year 5 to get a winning record he will be fired as well. No argument there.

We have a coach in his 4th year here playing in knuckle dragging games against back to back ranked opponents in their own house.

The best and most competitive team we have fielded in years with some serious fight, and we're going to fire our coach yet again?

Sure, we could end up 4-8 and be a pretty good football team. I'd rather let the season run it's course and see where we stand.

The average coaching tenure in the SEC is 4.5 years. 68% of 5th year seniors in ncaa football will have played for 2 HCs… not the coach who recruited them. It’s just the way the ncaa football world works. We shouldn’t get too myopic in our own Lincoln snow globe, thinking the world believes we fire good coaches. The only firing that doesn’t stand the test of time is Frank (bo won, but was a penis) The others were all warranted, and firing Scott as painful as it sounds, due to the pageantry and certainty his hiring came with… will be the most warranted (and the most painful)… it’s not that we fire too many coaches, we just suck at picking new ones.
