So far Frost has not recruited 1, not 1 wr, that can do anything. This has to change next fall.
Can also make the argument that the really good WR we did have has severely regressed. Hopefully Walters was the reason for WR struggles and we see a massive improvement this year.
I don't think Troy was helping matters much and that is why he has moved on to another pasture. But I think it's pretty clear that there was not a receiver on the roster last year that could (or was ready to) do the things that Stan could do. Noa was more of a possession/get to the sticks and catch the ball kind of guy. So NU really didn't have the guy that could put stress on a defense. The Williams/Woodyard JUCO experiment yielded not data. The productivity that Wan'dale brought to the table overlapped with JD. We missed the Mr. Reliability factor of Kade for much of the season.
other than the freshman all-american guy you mean?
The do it all guy is at the top of the list of course. BUT....
2018 recruits - 5 signed (ave Rivals rating 5.6), 4 made it to Lincoln, none now populate NU's roster. No way to spin this other than a inaugural class bust.
2019 recruits - Chase gone, Houston & Nance still at NU, Wandale basically a wingback, Hickman may end up being a bit of a TE/WR hybrid, Luke may end up being productive at the psn if he gets out competed at QB by AMart and Smothers.
2020 recruits - 5 signed (ave Rivals rating 5.8), with the top two guys having qualification concerns that are apparently being addressed.
NU needs a couple of big guys that can be targets downfield in order to occupy the attention of opposing safeties. If there is one thing than can open the playbook up, that is it. Hickman is 6'6, Betts and Manning are 6'3. Robinson and JD's potential increases markedly if these big guys can get involved in the offense.
what are Manning's qualification concerns?
New WR coach's job to make that happen. With the #3 ranked WR class in the nation this past cycle, it would appear that Frost gave him a head start on it.
can anybody answer this? I've seen 2 posters this week mention concerns, but nobody has given me a specific answer.
beginning to think they're regurgitating old talking points.
Concerns have been alleged, but there has been no reporting. Super legit prospect with some legit offers (FL, FSU, TAMU, Neb), but not a really gaudy list. I wonder if some folks think things don’t quite add up. The kid was a silent commit, so while it seemed the commit came out of the blue, he had pretty much been in the fold for a month before that.
Hopefully, it changes this fall. It's getting old quick .
Freshmen all american are getting old?
I can't disagree with that. UNLESS a grad transfer with big time skills drops in our laps, I would rather play a walk on with good hands and blocking skills who has been in the system for a couple of years than to bring in a new guy in the summer with average at best talent. We've had some pretty darned athletic walk on receivers come to campus the last couple of years and it didn't appear to me that Walters gave them much of a shot.
I have issues. Nobody throws me a bone.
This kid needs a change out of Lincoln. Good luck to him.
Next man up...
We got wandale but your point is valid. Need to recruit 5 or more a year until they get a 2 deep. And where are the Brandon Reilly and Todd Peterson walk-on types?
Frost has a Top100 WR Rivals recruit from Nebraska who can split out wide and the #1 Juco at the same position.
It makes me remember the 90s in a sad way. Bittersweet. Just like my life my friends...
Neither are on campus yet. The likelihood that Betts will be ready to from the beginning is slim.
This isn't Kade Warner. These guys create space.
If you don't believe that, then just give up on Nebraska football, cuz that's where we are headed.
Elite passing game, mobile QB, deadly offense. GBR
Context and understanding. Year one, last second disastor, not many recruits left from that class, thrown together.
Year two, everybody redshirted, so they brought in Noa to help.
Year three, top three class.
So, weve seen one catch on a guy who's also left the team in Chase, everyone else redshirted, and one of this staffs bigger mistakes was planning the four game redshirt rule with the guys.
So, we really dont know what we have, and no, dont just jump to the conclusion theyre like the first years class or guys under MR who is really only one,JD.
While coach dub could coach, he couldn't recruit,he certainly couldn't close.
This is the biggest question mark on the team, but its also the most loaded in numbers and talent
