Are any of these guys playing any meaningful snaps? Are they on track to contribute anytime soon? Thx.
I think Newell had limited upside. He is kind of a tweener. Too big and slow for DE. Too small for DT. I think he peaked pretty young.Newell has been passed by everyone.

I don't see King starting but that's just me.
Agreed on this. The current depth chart has Alex Davis second string behind Dzuris, with King behind Natter at the other DE spot. That would imply that next year, the starter in Dzuris's current DE spot would be Davis, unless Natter flips sides. Either way, it doesn't look like King will be starting at that spot next year.
That said, you never know how players will develop over time, and maybe King has several great bowl preparation practices, and then a strong winter in the weight room to get better. Just reading the tea leaves, it really seems like the coaches think A. Davis has the highest ceiling of the back-up DEs, but just needs more experience, so I will be surprised if he's not the starter opposite Freedom next year.
Freedom and Colin Miller will be the starting D Ends next season.
No, Colin won't be starting in 2017.
Yes, Colin will be starting in 2017.

Not doubting you, just wondering if you could elaborate on your statement and why you believe he will be the starter?

He's the best pure pass rusher on the team right now. He was forced to redshirt because he arrived at 6'3 225. He's closer to 240 now and even more explosive. Miller, despite not receiving much fanfare on signing day, is actually the most highly rated DE currently on the roster. The kid was a 6'1 200 outside linebacker as a Junior in HS, when his high school coaches started playing him at the line of scrimmage. That staff did a great job of helping him develop terrific pass rushing skills.
When people who watch practice or when the coaches or when older players are asked about any scout team players, every one of them mention Collin Miller. Langsdorf even called him unblockable at times... I've heard he has even frustrated the hell out of Gates.
Miller is also a pure Weak Side DE. This team doesn't have many guys in that mold. Daishon is a Strong Side DE who will play a lot next year and jump Natter. Alex Davis is very athletic and will battle Miller for playing time at WDE, but Davis is still a novice within the Sport. He doesn't use his hands well, and struggles with recognition at times.
Quayshon Alexander could factor into the mix at WDE as well, but he's still recovering from surgery in August. Guy Thomas has the most upside, but even if he qualifies, he's still too skinny for the Big Ten. I know some people think Quay will play OLB, but he might be too athletic to keep off the field, but has virtually no experience in pass coverage.

Surely they will move either Alexander or Jefferson down to DE. Add in Miller and Stille and we had a nice DE group. It's the total lack of DT's in last years class that could hurt us in the future. You had that feeling like somebody from that LB class was gonna put his hand on the ground in college.
I'm just giving @Cornicator some hassle.
Much like you looked at the LBs to predict who can move down to end, look at the DEs and ask who can move to tackle.Surely they will move either Alexander or Jefferson down to DE.
