I frankly don't understand why d1baseball has Michigan State in and us out. They have a better conference record than us, but their RPI, SOS, and overall record are all worse than ours. Is the conference record worth that much?

They have a better record against the top 50. Duh. :)

I can't see MSU getting in over NU, but then again I may just be a bit biased. NU is not in a very good position, and that is unfortunate. Think of all the close games they let slip away. A handfull more W's and we probably would be a LOCK.

The key stretch to me was the four straight tight-as-a-drum games versus Ohio State and Iowa. Win just two and we're a lock and probably in a good position to host with a strong finish. Instead, it was four excruciating Ls.

Yep. We made our bed now we have to lie in it. This bed is not all that uncomfortable, though. We're not in terrible shape... yet. We did pretty much erase our margin for error with those games, especially so coming after our Maryland debacle. But we're still in the mix.

Sweep Purdue, scratch out one win in Champaign and we'll be right back to mid 20s RPI. That's 'IN'. Lose one to Purdue and have to face the impossible - sweep Illinois. Where will that come from? So, gotta sweep PU.

BTW, this Purdue series will hit us harder than I was thinking. Their W/L record is just marginally worse then NW so, it will hit our SOS only a bit harder than did NW. But we'll take a hit on our side of the RPI as well. Our W/L record. Home wins are cheap, three of them only equal 2.1 wins. Our two road wins at NW equaled 2.6 wins. We're going to get a double ding this weekend.

The Illinois series will balance all that off, though.

Some B1G teams have slipped in the RPI the last week or so, with the potential for more to do so in these last few weeks. I really worry about this as I could see the B1G going from a five/six bid league to a three bid league if enough teams RPI slip into the 40's/50's and that'd be a shame.
