that he had about 50 people contact us about the opening. Of that number he had narrowed it down to 10 options. According to reports UCLA source has confirmed that there had been contact between McClure and NU. It also sounds like other schools had been contacting McClure and that UCLA is working on a new deal for him. I have a hunch that UCLA wants to keep McClure badly and will pony up what it takes even IF we offered. Sooooo who ya got? Wild speculation okay as long as it isn't EddieO.

I would have to think that the usual suspects would be in the 10, Brecterfield, Prunty, Kiffin. Kiffin might be a marked man though, so I'm not sure he's a real option.

Rumor had it that McClure reached out to us, so he is either pulling an Orgeron to get a raise out of UCLA, or maybe its possible for UCLA to pay him enough to want to stay even if he truly does want to be here.

My money is on Brecterfield as a backup option, simply because of the Riley ties and he makes so little at UW. I think we could get him.

Lots of DL offers have gone out in the last day or so, makes me think whoever the DL coach is, is already locked up.

Well, I initially thought Parella was just the knee-jerk "let's find an old Husker player because they'd make a great coach" sort of pick, but that was before I learned that he'd played for Riley and Banker while they were with the Chargers. He may have a real shot, not just a Jason Peter wannabe pick.

Don't discount JP.

Maybe. But if you put JPs coaching resume up (minus playing at Neb) people would have a hemorrhage. 2 years at a D2 school (located in Siberia). No experience recruiting D1 athletes. Northern Michigan is located in the upper peninsula of Michigan - basically Canada.

I guess you never know

So nobody has any new names to add? Surely if there were 50 guys that showed interest and the list is narrowed to 10, somebody can come up with one new name that might be on that list...

50 names is half of D1 football.

Its pretty much all of power 5 football.

I think its a pretty fair statement to say that most of the names on that list won't satisfy anyone here. Its probably safe to say that outside of maybe 2-3 names on the list (Lupoi, Orgeron, McClure) very few people would have any idea what we were getting, and even McClure was a late education for many ;)

But no, I don't have any silver bullet picks. It would surprise me if Riley went way out in left field. I think we're getting a McClure/OSU connection.

What about NFL guys? Everyone seems to be thinking college coaches, which I am as well, but are there any NFL guys with possible ties to Riley and/or Nebraska

Obligatory Ron Brown mention.

He's a good coach, done well at every other position he's coached. And he knows NU.

Jim Tomsula? He's out of a job at the current time. He has ties to Harbaugh, and Riley and Harbaugh often seem to share common interests in players and coaches.

Prunty is a an interesting name. Looks like a good recruiter. It appeared to me the little bit I watched Cinci this last year that their D line played with their hair on fire. I actually don't remember him being mentioned before.

Now there's an interesting one. Not sure about his college connections or recruiting stroke, but would seem worth a look.

He seemed genuinely concerned when addressing the Aldon Smith issue in SF. Seems like the kind of guy who could motivate a defensive line.

Obligatory "Hank Hughes came from Cincy" post. ;)

That was a sarcastic post ;)
Buddy Wyatt is currently at SMU. I remember him as being respected as a recruiter and a reasonably good coach. IF I remember correctly he and Coz clashed over scheme and technique. Somebody else probably has a more informed opinion of him. Just throwing stuff at a wall.
