Really disappointed in his play this year. Off the top of my head he could have won us two games by knocking down the Hail Mary (he was the closest defender to the ball that I remember, though I admit it's basically a free for all on that play), and not allowing the player to get behind him 50 yard bomb at IL in the last minute. Against Wisconsin, he dropped at least one easy INT. He is also the captain and leader of the worst secondary in the country.

I'm open to the discussion if you feel his failures are so visible because he's making up for others mistakes...I haven't done that much analysis. His play has been a major problem for the D this year, IMO.

Collins is a disruptive beast we haven't seen in a long time around here.

Bray has done more with our patchwork LB crew than any other coach. Huge kudos to him and that crew. They have better ball skills than our CB's right now.

In defense of our LBs and Gerry, the entire defense actually is pretty bad.

This is harsh on Gerry. However one problem is he has been accorded superstar status, which feeds into expectations. He is a good player, not yet elite.

He has failed thus far , he is one of many that hasn't figured this defense out.

I don't think Gerry deserves the hype that he receives. He's an OK player but has made numerous mental errors.

I think Gerry and Collins are the only ones doing a good job. LB Newby does a good job too when he gets in.

Collins is quietly haveing an all conference season. Gerry is playing so bad that I wonder if he even cares. His tackling has actually gotten worse and that's saying something

Newby is a stud. It is pretty funny how they tell us how he struggles in pass D, and is the best against the run. At this point he is our best pass defender, and best all around LB. As for the LB'ers, I love the group we currently have and almost wish they would finish the season. Weber is a sure tackler, and is in the right spots at all times. Might not be a game changer, but is solid as hell. When everyone gets healthy, I think we should stick with the same lineup. Young, Weber, Newby > Young, Banderas, RI by what i have seen on the field. Yes, in my eyes Newby has been way better than MRI.

Figure what out? This is supposed to be a simplified defense.
Bo's defense could cover up Gerry's inability to play man on man because he was there to help the CBs. You can go back to last year and watch that Gerry is actually pretty bad at tackling, it was proven again this year when the southern miss player bulldozed him

The BYU hail mary isn't on Gerry. Williams lost focus and should have been playing the front of the receiver. Gerry was playing the back of the receiver, but couldn't make the play. Gerry did drop an easy pick, but had a nice one earlier this year. His tackling hasn't been what you'd like out of a safety.
