Cris Carter to rookies: "Get a fall guy" for when you get in trouble....

Honestly, it is pretty good advice for some of these guys. He knows they are going to do dumb shit, might as well have one of their 'crew' (people on the payroll that don't do anything) take the wrap for it.

As is the case in most instances, he regrets the fact that what he said has come to light rather than what he said.

I've never been a huge fan of CC. He's on Mike and Mike quite often and all I see when he's on there is "look how connected I am!" "Look how cool I am" "I was the best at the game - these guys aren't as good as me" - and poor Greeny just feeds into it, but I secretly wonder if Greeny tires of it too. He plays a great fanboy, but Greeny is too smart to not see the same thing.

Nope. Those are the guys that actually need to hear they are accountable for their actions. Those guys have (statistically) never had a positive male role model in their life to show them the correct way to do things. To give them that advice is irresponsible. He told them exactly what they've been hearing their whole life. Do what you want and someone will be there to bail you out.

Don't listen to m&m, but I think you summed cc up. Guy was a good player, but he thinks he is the second coming and acts like a pimp and everyone else is his beeatch

Kinda thought the fall guy was implied...every crew has one ...strange that there comments are over a year old though

I just hope that when my kids get their own crew, they don't put in their app. To be the fall guy

I laughed listening to carter, because he sounds like a total moron, and makes the nfl look really bad, and he has no clue that he's doing it.

I view it as abstinence only teaching vs safe sex teaching. Sure abstinence is the best way to keep from pregnancy and STDs. But it isn't that practical. Teenagers want to get freaky. So it is probably not all bad to tell them not to do it, but if they are, wear a condom.

Same with these guys. They were all told get in trouble. But in reality some of these players are going to smoke some pot and do some dumb stuff. They need to know that one of their crew better step up and say that it's his weed if they get pulled over. Or the gun under the seat is his.

I'm not endorsing that the players break the law. But it doesn't mean that what CC said was bad advice.

Right. Use a rubber so you don't get someone pregnant vs. when the crew gets clipped for cocaine, Blame someone else. Not following you at all on this one. Not to mention that he's not only sending a bad message, he's doing it to all the world, and making himself and the nfl look like moronic teenagers.

Is this seriously how you raise your kids?

Wow. Last I checked practicing safe sex was a sign of being responsible. Nowhere near what CC was preaching. why the hell should someone else take the fall? To compare that to your example of teenagers getting freaky....that would mean when one kid gets a girl pregnant, one of his buddies needs to step up and take responsibility to raise the kid? Moronic.

It's not like just the athlete is going to be smoking pot. It would most likely be all of them. So in that instance, the crew member takes the fall. Let's remember that 'the crew' usually consists of do nothing leaches. Their one job is to be the fall guy.

Is this seriously how you raise your kids?

Nope. my son will also not grow up in the ghetto with poor parental guidance. These guys have bad influences and many will make mistakes. The least that the crew member, that leaches off the athlete, can do is take the fall for some pot that they were all smoking.

I understand the analogy you're trying to make. There is the way that things should be, then there is the way things really are.

cc's ego couldn't fit in PBA!

coming from a viking fan, he was fun to watch in his earlier years, but, when his ego started to run things (re:sideline rants, etc), not so much. never been a real big fan of his tv gig, either.

Practicing safe sex is a good idea. But what I meant was that, IMO, many teenagers shouldn't be having sex, that goes for most 14-15 year olds. They are not emotionally ready. I would venture to say that even safe sex is a bad idea for them. But if they are going to have sex, we better educate them and throw them a condom or 5.... It wasn't about not taking responsibility for pregnancy.

CC is not a bad guy but he does have.a giant ego about what he did as a player, his connections and his ability to coach football now.

Not sure why he would suggest a fall guy in a public setting like that - he speaks to taking responsibility all the time......I guess he needed a Plan B for boys being boys. Or what is says on radio and TV is a well practiced act (hint...it is #2)

This. Also, he only regretted it a year and a half later when it got some bad press. Sapp, who was on stage with him, seemed to be in full agreement with CC. Sapp was recently fired for hiring a hooker and also apparently charged with 3 counts of domestic violence against his girlfriend.

It should also be noted the NFL didn't go on stage afterwards and tell them that advice was bad advice.

Exactly! Which is why you can't compare the advice CC was giving to handing out condoms to teenagers. His "education" was to blame someone else or let someone else take the fall when they screw up...because they will! When you educate teenagers about sex and give them condoms, you are still telling them they are responsible for whatever happens and you outline the consequences of those actions when they screw up...because they will.

What setting is right for telling an 18-20 year old to not accept responsibility for his/her actions? And this has zero to do with being PC or not. Not sure where or why you think this falls into the PC realm.

I'm to deeply flawed to have a strong opinion against what CC said. When I was younger, you couldn't tell me nuttin, and if you had put a few million in my pocket? I would have been a disaster. Yes, I probably would have bought a fall guy. Right or wrong, I would have done it when I was younger. Of course I am trying to educate my son to be better than I was, so hopefully he won't need one. Not that it matters, because he doesn't have any money and isn't about to sign a huge contract anytime soon and the fact is, he is a better teenager than I was.

they were nfl rookies, i think, not quite 18 yr old kids. unsavory not to accept responsibilty, but plenty of parents have told their kids to simply blame satan for their actions. see josh duggar.

getting offended by speech = pc. if he told them to jump off a cliff...

For some reason I listen to Mike and Mike and the show is even worse when he is on. I always change the channel.

So are you guys saying that you can't be caught saying this in CC's position, or that it's bad advice? "Fall guys" exist in every corner of society especially with millions of dollars surrounding them. I couldn't imagine myself as a high ranking gov't official or a Wall Street trader, let alone a superior athlete. But I got a Packers bumper sticker on my car, so "If I had your talent...". And by the way, these rookies aren't kids, they're millionaires. This is the real world.
