Covid survivors

I’ve been seeing reports of this for a little while now but never an actual number associated with how many people would suffer long term/permanent affects. If this one is even close to accurate, 1 out of 10 is a lot higher number than I would’ve ever anticipated. Hopefully it’s way off.
That's just another click bait ludicrous prediction.

Yes, that is true, but if the virus was only transmitted by people that had symptoms, you wouldn't need to lockdown, because those with symptoms would just stay home.

No they wouldn’t. Parents send their kids to school sick every single day. People going to work every day contagious with something.

lots of long term effects after an ICU stay - only 56% are able to return to work + significant financial toxicity

Ahh, so it’s a common theme with any serious illness, not just COVID. That’s good to know, and not that it’s a new thing.

Correct - it’s just that COVID is a new disease -
so you now have more patients needing ICU stays - more people with significant neurocognitive and physical long term sequela and more people chewing through a significant portion of their life savings as a result.

In addition no one knows the long term sequela of this disease process because to date there have been no long term survivors

OK. I just find it strange that from the middle of May until the end of May there were plenty of places to hang out at a "bar"/ restaurant in the Houston area, you could sit side by side etc.. in that time, the cases did not increase, Then, the bars opened, and at the same time, the Floyd stuff happened in Houston. Now people want to automatically assume it is because of the bars. I went to 3 bars one weekend, two weekends ago, at all 3, social distancing measures were in place and masks were worn by 75-80% of the patrons. I know that is just 3 bars, but it is at least a sample. I know that I can look at the tapes from the "protests" and see masks weren't worn and social distancing measures weren't adhered to.

But, isn't it weird how only one gets blamed for the spike?

The cause of the spike is the same in Arizona and Texas: its the heat of summer so people are spending more time indoors. Its not because of bars or beaches or protests, its climate controlled areas in general.

Older patients did not have "some built in immunity" to swine flu. We did the sensible thing then and locked down the nursing homes not the whole damned country. Three states on the east coast forced nursing homes to take COVID positive patients. So much for the "lockdown" doing any good to protect the elderly. Try again at an excuse for gubernatorial incompetence. IF they had quarantined nursing facilities and screened workers there for nothing more than a fever, we would have had THOUSANDS of fewer deaths out there. The state of Washington at least has an excuse with the way it hit them before they knew what was going on.
You are entitled to your individual opinion although I remember hearing about studies to the contrary. Kinda weird that you got making excuses for governors out of my previous post. I wasn't saying that and do not believe that. There have been a lot of mistakes made. Plenty to go around in this whole mess. Personally, I hate seeing bad politicians on both sides get off the hook with the public because too many Americans are manipulated into focusing on the mistakes the other side is making and giving their own side a pass. I won't support the swamp so I don't engage in that B.S.

I don't think so, people have been cooped up for a long time, getting out to a beach, a beer patio or a protest is happening, no doubt.

I know that on May 1 Houston police dept had 41 officers on quarantine, on June 1 (again 2 weeks after the bars opened) there were 54, suddenly 207 are on quarantine as of June 29. Seems strange that that many police officers would be quarantined based on bars and not based on contact with people that were at the protests, but we'll never know.

I think it's not reality to be calling the increase in cases a "spike". I know everybody is doing it but these are more of a bump in the curve than a spike. EVERYBODY has said/known that different locales were going to become hot spots at different times as we travel through this mess. Using the word spike IMO is just another way to fuel fear. I don't think the rise in number of deaths is going to be as pronounced now just due to the age group we're detecting as positive now. Most of the new cases being detected are younger people who aren't going to die from this.

Also, they're testing 5x-10x more people a day now. They're re-testing positive people a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th time and calling that a "new case" each time there is a positive test. If 1000 people give you 5000 positive tests and the media reports you have 5000 cases now you can really scare people. Oh and what do you think that does to you positive % rate?

If there is no increase in deaths and the initial death rate we saw with the NE part of the country continues to drop the "not the flu" fear mongerers are going to be really mad.

We keep waiting 2 weeks and things keep getting better -- except our govt gets dumber and dumber.

Exactly, so closing down pools, playground and splash pads is counterproductive - will the govt ever learn?

Nobody cares or should care about somebody getting the flu. Everybody should care about somebody dying from it. Deaths are down exponentially so we should all be breathing a sigh of relief instead of freaking out.

I just read a little meme that said,

There is a spike in positives cases because there is a spike in the number of tests. If there was a spike in IQ tests, there would be a spike in the number of morons too.

ha ha ha

Pools: an environment that is literally full of a disinfectant, outdoors, in the hottest part of the day with highest level of UV rays. It's probably the place that you are least likely to catch a virus.

My point exactly.

While that is true, if you only transmit the virus when you are showing symptons, many people will stay home and people that are not sick generally will try to avoid those that exhibit the symptoms.

it is a math problem really and you don't need everyone to act in a certain way to reduce the spread...because there are always exceptions and different variables.

So in Texas on May 25th 906,000 people had tested for Coronavirus (not different people, just people some are repeat).

As of July 1, 2,175,000 had tested. Again not necessarily different people, just people in general.

As of May 25, 55,971 had tested positive
As of July 1, 175,000 had tested positive.

As of May 25 1527 had died
As of July 1 2525 had died.

From onset to May 25
906,000 tested, 55,971 positive, 1527 dead
6% of all tested had the virus
.2% are dead because of virus

from May 25 to July 1.
1,269,000 tested, 119,029 positive, 998 dead
9% of all tested had the virus
.07% are dead becuase of virus.

So based on what we can see, more than twice the amount of people tested, more than twice the number of people positive, about a 33% REDUCTION in fatalities.

Shouldn't the number of deaths had been like 3200 or more? Considering everyone dies from this.

Totals from onset in Texas...
2,175,000 tested
176,000 positive 8% positivity rate
2525 fatalities .01% fatality rate

Should we compare that to some other states?

Trumpvirus has killed over 130,000 now and that's an underestimate.
Opening up things again without masks will only prolong the misery further.
Mask up if you support small businesses.
I take it you're trying to get this thread locked. Stupid post. A more accurate name if you're going to name it after an American would be the Cuomo Croup. He single handedly killed thousands of citizens with his nursing home edict which some other governors blindly followed.

Yeah, this thread was stupid a long time ago. People have gone from twisting stats to just making crap up now.

Still waiting on Mr President to put together any kind of competent strategy to contain it. But it's obviously too much for him.

Somebody has to take the blame. Invariably that person is always on the other side of the political spectrum and not doing what you want them to do. Its today's America.

Nihilism . . . more ambitious than sarcasm and less impressive.

Jackson County Missouri has had 39 alleged wuflu deaths in 2020 and 132 homicides... What exactly needs to be contained?

Maybe we should all just hide in our basements like Hiden Biden. He just screams competent doesn't he??RollingLaughLaughing

Haha, Biden does have mush for brains. But he is also a life-long BFF of Wall Street and businesses and I'm sure his handlers would make sure he didn't discourage using masks and also they could set up some sort of basic national effort at test, track and trace. Most other countries seem like they can do that. But it's too much for us?

His "handlers" are a bunch of left wing socialist nutjobs who hate America. I'll take Trump over that socialist utopia 6 days a week and twice on Sundays.

Nah, you’re not paying attention to the Democratic Party if you think that. The DNC hates socialists more than they hate Trump. Maybe they say this and that, but for decades they’ve made sure Wall Street is happy through their actions.

Something really disturbing has been going on for decades and it probably isn't new but if feels like it's new.
The idea that everyone is equally worthy of contempt, or cynicism, or distrust. "Everyone is guilty . . . no one is better than anyone else . . . no ideas are better than any other ideas . . . "
That's not true and it's born out of a lack of critical thinking skills.
6 foundational things that only apply to homo sapiens because of our unique nature/abilities on this planet.
1) right/wrong
2) good/bad
3) evil/righteousness
All 3 are related and exist on the same continuum.
Here's how you know that evil/stupidity is present in a conversation or a person: Anyone arguing that all things are relatively equal/unequal, and that individualism is a myth.
If someone trespasses against an individual or society they can be judged, and should be judged. Blame-shifting and group accountability vs individual accountability is how bad actors attain power.
Hitler blamed the Jews for all the suffering in his country. Blame-shifting and group accountability. It was wrong when Hitler did it, and it's wrong when SJWs do it.
