COVID and it's relevance to Husker football.

The media is fear mongering the hell out of it, but I belive its seasonal and each area will see an increase which will then subside. If everyone acted like they did in 2018 most wouldn't even notice.
It may be seasonal to some degree which puts it in the realm of being worse during school session. The Lambda variant coming out of South America does concern me in that the vaccine offers virtually zero protection against it. One of the problems with making such a specific mRNA vaccine against so few antigens is that it doesn't offer very good protection against widely different mutations.

IMO, this Corona virus is not behaving like a naturally occurring CV we have seen in domestic animals over the past 40 years. It seems to be mutating more rapidly to similarly pathogenic forms. I remain concerned that Wuhan did something to the virus to enhance it's ability to persist in the population. We need to be working rapidly to include the Lambda strain in the vaccine to protect immunocompromised people.

I'm reading that natural immunity from infection with the original strain or Delta strain does seem to confer immunity to Lambda. That's a big deal for football. If we're going to continue testing protocols we could have a lot of disruption to play. IMO, we need to let the Delta strain run through our population pretty quickly before we'll get to a situation where Lambda isn't a factor.

Yes they do.
But we, Americans, have to find our way back to adulthood. We didn't just invite evil in, we sent it money. Told it we wanted to be its friend. Let it steal our intellectual property for decades.
And ya know why? Cheap labor. Slave labor. Irrational greed.
We decided that capitalism was gonna unite the world ... but evil doesn't want a world united in non-violence based on mutual cooperation for the betterment of all. It wants a global death cult. It wants suffering. It wants slavery.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of market economics, but I'm not naive about the nature of homo sapiens. We have to be honest with ourselves regarding our nature, and we need to use laws, logic, philosophy and tons of humility (religion can be of service in that endeavor) to steer ourselves away from the darkness.

The question is how? I guess for one we could stop them from buying up U.S. companies and land using shell "private companies". That would be a start. Maybe make them sell their interests in any food production entity in the U.S. There is no way in hell we should have foreign interests owning our means of producing food in this country (e.g. JBS and Smithfield).

Yes. But most importantly, be the leader in uniting many other countries in doing the same in taking a large, united and forceful response (nonmilitary).

Like it or not we're dependant on China for too many manufactured goods from wind tower magnets to farm implement parts to do much to them. The manipulate our commodity markets because they're such a huge market as well. Trump was the first President who had the guts to understand and try to do something about it and he did make some progress with those thieves. Now with the current administration it's back to the good old boy network where family members own shipping companies reaping huge profits moving freight between China and the U.S. McConnell, Pelosi and Feinstein all profit via trade with China.

That is why i stressed the importance of uniting many countries. A united front will knock them on their ass. I have not read enough to get granular, but i have read a bit to understand that their economy isn't on solid footing

I don't think we'll see a huge surge in schools. Kids have been socializing all summer long and I guarandamnedtee you nobody has been wearing masks.
Of course they aren't wearing masks, but there's a big difference between summer socializing and high schools where we're combining 500-800 kids in eight different combinations of classes over the course of a school day without masks and with local case counts much higher than the super low levels that were around in over the summer. I think that the concerns are mainly in higher populated areas with larger schools.

That is true. Given the amount of time they've had over the past year to acquire natural infections of COVID, I think they'll be fine this fall. As I've posted multiple times, I think the places who still had schools shut down last spring are where they'll have the most problems. Those households who had Jr sitting in front of the computer screen and Sr was working from home will likely be the next wave. In our area, we've had a HUGE number of kids, parents and teachers have COVID infections. Just about every parent I've talked to in Cedar County Nebraska had the whole family get it last school year.

Hmm... were those people actually tested and came back positive?

Everybody I talked to had at least one family member or coworker who tested positive. IF they at the same time had typical symptoms some of them didn't bother getting tested. There aren't many things that will cause you to lose your sense of taste and smell to go along with the other common symptoms.

I've heard of COVID positivity rates as high as 20% but it sounds like the good folks up in Cedar County have self-proclaimed a 100% positivity rate based on their own diagnosis.

You obviously didn't see some of the early studies in the Bronx in New York City. At one point they did a study and roughly 40% of their citizens were antibody positive. Some of the people I talked to were health care workers and when they tell me their whole family was symptomatic last spring, I believe them. At a certain point when someone in a household is symptomatic, tests positive and nobody is wearing masks in the house, the rest at least got heavy exposure. The POINT WAS that there was an extremely high rate of exposure and infection in the population of NE Nebraska. I have family and friends all over NE Nebraska and ALL of them had at least one person get sick in their house test positive. Amazingly my wife cared for hospitalized COVID patients 7 days a week for months and never got sick. I suspect she had pretty high exposure to other Corona viruses in her practice prior to COVID hitting.

The CDC estimates that between Feb '20 and Mar '21, only 1 of 4.2 covid cases were reported, which totals an estimated 120.2 million cases in that time period.

Anecdotally, I have a hell of a story about this I'll tell ya of we ever meet. Curious how many common acquaintances we have in NE Neb.

I read a statistic that said 38% of people who thought they had covid actually did. No idea how they arrived at that or where I read it.

I wasn't referring to antibody tests. I'm just saying that a high majority of people who feel sick and go out to get tested wind up testing negative for the virus. From my personal experience, there are too many people in NE Nebraska and probably all parts of Nebraska who are (A) not scared of COVID and (B) scared to get immunized. A couple guys from Knox County are calling it "the China shot" on FB and aren't going to take it mainly because Biden is telling them to. Anyway, hopefully the people you know have antibodies and have followed that up with getting immunized. If that is the case, they are in great shape!

As for your wife, God Bless Her for her great work up there. I have heard the theory that nurses and even day care & teachers may have some built immunity. Heaven knows that they have been hit with everything under the sun over the years.

1. If you have antibodies why would you need to get immunized?

2. Most people have some immunity due to already having been exposed to Coronaviruses over and over throughout life.

It just seems strange that I have never had symptoms from the flu, ever. I would think there would have been a time in my life where viral load was high or immune response was lowered to give the virus some headway. I'm not complaining, just seems like my body handles it well, even during not so ideal situations.
If u had the actual flu, u would absolutely know it. Dingle is wrong on this.

Your are 100% wrong. You can be infected with influenza virus and not know it. Just as some people are virtually symptomless with COVID you can have the flu and not even recognize that your a little bit runny nose is being caused by influenza virus. It all depends on your level of immunity to whatever virus your exposed to.

They arrived at that by the number of negative tests run. I think that stat is a little misleading because many people got tested just because they had family members who tested positive. It is true that just because somebody in the house tested positive doesn't mean you will even if you have some mild symptoms. What I'm told by every MD, PA or NP that I've talked to is, "if they've lost their sense of taste or smell, the odds are about 1000 to 1 that they will test positive."

Be a good idea for the majority of the team that’s actually going to be playing in games to get the vaccine that way it won’t matter who is throwing interceptions because it the team gets Covid the game or possibly games will be a loss for the team..

ultimately more than likely the governors of Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania could throw the monkey wrench in to the whole deal. I guess I had better not forget the moron mayor of Lincoln either in this deal. The Dr.s I talk to from Lincoln think she was a complete hysterical dipshit on how she handled COVID.
And there are others- sorry, far, far more- specifically intensivist, pulmonologist, EM- that say the city’s action saved many, prevented a system from breaking. That’s why these specialist (predominant Rs) willingly participated in press conferences with her. The interesting part…they are wondering why she’s radio silent now?

The medical profession (clinical and Administrative) is appalled this was ever made political (Rs and Ds and Is)- the politicians and those listening to their garbage is disheartening

Gee my pulmonologist and cardiologist friends from Lincoln all say their mayor and their city health Dr. are both idiots. Guess we should take a scientific poll of critical care Dr.s in Omaha.

They are entitled to their opinions. No reason to doubt your claim. However, If it’s related to Covid response…these two would be extreme outliers w/in their specialties. The lincoln medical staff has never viewed Covid through a political lens…goes for Rs, Ds and unknown affiliation….at least the one in leadership roles speaking on behalf of their practice and specialty. If your willing, please feel free to DM me. Thanks
