From my perspective, knowing a bit about risk and what goes into a decision like this, I am proud of the University today.
Kudos to the reporter who asked the important question on whether retaining him was a risk (I only heard audio, don't know who it was), and a tip of the cap to Shawn for answering. I probably would not have. But, for better or worse, they've calculated that the risk of KW hurting someone in an alcohol-related event while working for the University is acceptable when considering the plan going forward (treatment, counseling, monitoring) and that risk is outweighed by KW's value to the team and, importantly, the desire to help/support him as family.
Shawn publicly admitted it is a risk, which is true, and a very candid response owning up to the seriousness of an act like this for a man in charge of developing young men. I'd be interested to know of an example where another attorney/AD did the same thing by acknowledging they were taking a risk in deciding to help someone they care about having around on and off the field.
There really is No Place Like Nebraska. Well done IMO.
